#reflection This weekend consisted of long walks and long talks with Carolyn Alexander. At a recent #nonprofit #fundraiser the topic of conversation was broached - Should our goal be #selfsufficiency or #strong #interdependence for the people we help … and ourselves? What’s the right balance between the two extremes? In the conversation, I realized that I’ve been moving away from self-sufficiency these last few years; realizing that interdependence is the way we can all #thrive - in our #teams at work and our #family and #friend circles. When I was younger I was fiercly independent and fought to do it myself. At some point, maybe through conversations with my mother, I understood that there will always be people in our society, teams, families that need help - maybe ongoingly or maybe temporarily. I’d love to hear thoughts on this concept of #selfsufficency versus #interdependence - the implications for how we live our lives at work, play and home are significant.

#Startup #nonprofit Good afternoon, everyone. If you or someone you know works for a startup nonprofit focused on helping the homeless and is committed to transparency, I'd like to help connect your organization with individuals facing homelessness, substance abuse, mental illness, and more. By working together, you can become the (lead resource) in this area, which will help your organization secure more federal and state funding through programs like HUD, the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), the Continuum of Care (CoC), the Homeless Assistance Program (HAP), and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), among others. #Description: Lead Recource - Nonprofits often secure funding by positioning themselves as their community's lead resource, establishing them as a trusted hub for services. They attract grants, government contracts, and donations by coordinating with other organizations, offering comprehensive support, and demonstrating measurable impact. Being the lead resource also enables nonprofits to partner with private and public entities, leveraging their expertise to secure sustainable funding while addressing critical needs effectively. That's a wonderful sentiment! There are many ways to help those in need: 1. **Volunteering:** Offer your time and skills to organizations that support the less fortunate. 2. **Donations:** Give to charities or directly to individuals in need. 3. **Advocacy:** Speak out about issues affecting the disadvantaged to raise awareness and promote change. 4. **Education:** Support programs that provide education and job training to empower people to improve their lives. Is there a particular way you're interested in helping, or would you like more specific suggestions?

The Psychology of Giving: Why Some Causes Struggle to Gain Support As someone who has spent considerable time on GoFundMe, I've noticed a fascinating yet perplexing trend. While some campaigns, like those asking for help to buy a watch or fund a holiday, quickly reach their targets, others with arguably more critical missions, such as my own project, Liberation Lens, struggle to gain traction. Why is this happening? It's incredibly dangerous to leave an abuser because the final step in the domestic violence pattern can often be fatal. Over 70% of domestic fatalities happen after the victim has ended the relationship. Other outcomes include long-term stalking, denial of financial resources, and manipulation of the family court system to terrify the victim and her children. As someone who was repeatedly asked, "Why don't you just leave?" I know firsthand how complex and dangerous this situation can be. With the right knowledge and education, victims could have different journeys. They could be more empowered to know their rights, where to access information, and the tools available to them. This is why I am raising funds to build the Liberation Lens platform, which will be the tool that could make all the difference when a victim is at their most vulnerable. Read more about the psychology of giving and why supporting Liberation Lens is crucial in my latest blog post. https://lnkd.in/eBxF53xm Support the cause by donating to our GoFundMe campaign: https://gofund.me/ff12ca8a Your support is vital. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #SupportSurvivors #Crowdfunding #PsychologyOfGiving #LiberationLens #Empowerment #NonProfit #SocialImpact #EndAbuse Carina Le Marquand GoFundMe
