📢ANNOUNCEMENT / / Together with Speed Skating Canada, we are pleased to announce a climate change awareness and education campaign, “Save the Ice” at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating event in Calgary. https://lnkd.in/gtTWxeWi The campaign aims to raise awareness about the impact of global warming on winter sports, including speed skating. It enables Canadians to make a personal impact on the climate by watching and sharing a video featuring renowned Canadian Olympic speed skater, Gaetan Boucher discussing how climate change is impacting the sport. For every video share, Svante will remove half a kilogram of CO₂* from the atmosphere via our direct air capture (DAC) partner and fellow Canadian carbon removal company, Deep Sky, subject to certain terms and conditions. Whether it be on the water, a field or the court, the sustainability leaders with the surfing, skiing, #NBA #PGA #MLB and #NFL are working diligently on going faster with what they can do on the changing climate. The latest report from the Rugby community shows the considerable impact climate change is having on their sport. Games cancelled, postponed, lost resources, fields, impact on athlete's health and much more is having this industry going further on the work needed to mitigate the warming of the planet. You can't ski if you have no snow. You can't have the Winter Olympic Games either. The #24GSASummit was clear. Competition should be left on the field. Collaboration and advancing for a win on climate must be done together. @GreenSportsAlliance #teamsport #sports #collaboration #climateaction

Did Paris actually manage to clean the Seine - where swimming has been banned for over a century - just in time for the Olympics?🤯 In one of our posts last week, we discussed the pollution in the Seine and its impact on the upcoming Olympics. In the month leading up to the games, E. coli bacteria levels in the river were dangerously high. But, on Wednesday, the World Triathlon and Paris 2024 tested the water and confirmed it was safe for swimming, even in the consistent rainy weather. So, the triathlon competitions, starting with a 1.5-kilometer swim in the Seine, went ahead on July 31. 🏊 About $1.5 billion has been spent to clean up the river for the Olympics. One key project has been a new rainwater storage basin, which, according to Paris 2024, can hold as much water as 20 Olympic swimming pools, preventing it from being discharged into the Seine.💧 🏟 Read more on the current situation here - https://lnkd.in/gfqJRFZF Although the Mayor's recent statement that pollution in the Seine has been cleaned up raises doubts, Paris is definitely making strides in the right direction. Hopefully, the city will continue updating the old sewage system even after the games are over and the public attention fades. #Paris2024 #Olympics2024 #Seine #Triathlon #CleanWater #WaterSanitation #Sewers

Could you survive on nine litres of water a week? That’s what Sweden says citizens need in reserve in case of war or other emergency. https://lnkd.in/e7r7hk4n I presume that’s per person. Isn’t that a more mind-focussing way to visualise water volumes than Olympic swimming pools? Let’s think about it in terms of water leaks. A water leak which is wasting enough water to fill one Olympic swimming pool every year is a pretty small leak. But it’s enough water to supply 5 people in an emergency for one week – being lost every minute! I know which figure make me want to turn the tap off when brushing my teeth. Water scarcity is seriously scary. https://lnkd.in/ejpYqMsA #WaterScarcity #WaterResilience #Sustainability #ClimateAction #WaterInnovation

🏊 Organisers say conditions for Olympic swimming events in Paris are now “entering the good zone”, despite the River Seine again failing safety tests. > Paris 2024 president Tony Estanguet said he was “confident” that the river could be used for triathlon and marathon swimming contests in late July and August. > Testing in June showed that E.Coli levels in the river were 10 times acceptable levels, but Estanguet said the plan had always been to hold races this month, when conditions were better. 🔬 LGC Standards provides a huge range of reference materials and proficiency testing schemes to support your analysis of water in rivers, and many other matrices.
