On September 23, 1932, a remarkable story unfolded in the realm of sports and social change with the founding of the **National Football League (NFL)**. While today it is known as the premier professional football league in the United States, the NFL began as a modest organization, showcasing the potential for teamwork, perseverance, and resilience. In the early 1930s, American professional football was a fragmented sport after being overshadowed by baseball and boxing. However, a group of visionaries recognized the untapped potential of the game and sought to create a formal league that would unify various teams and establish a sustainable business model for professional football. The inaugural NFL season consisted of just 10 teams and had a modest schedule. Among these teams were historical franchises like the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants. Despite initial challenges, including financial difficulties and competition from college football, the NFL persevered and began to grow its fan base. The leaders of the league worked tirelessly to improve the quality of play and promote the sport through innovative marketing strategies. The NFL's journey from a fledgling organization to a powerful cultural institution took commitment and resourcefulness. Visionaries like George Halas, co-founder of the Chicago Bears, and Bert Bell, who served as NFL commissioner, played crucial roles in shaping the league and advocating for the sport. Their leadership helped solidify the NFL’s place in American culture, transforming it into a major entertainment powerhouse. Over the decades, the NFL evolved, introducing new rules, expanding teams, and embracing technologies to enhance viewer experience. By the 1960s and 1970s, football emerged as a national obsession, culminating in the famous Super Bowl, which would become one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Today, the NFL generates billions of dollars in revenue, showcasing not only the evolution of a sport but also the power of teamwork and collective vision. The league has also become more inclusive, promoting diversity and engagement through initiatives aimed at supporting underrepresented communities and athletes. As we reflect on this significant event from September 23, let us celebrate the spirit of collaboration and the importance of believing in a shared vision. The NFL's story is a testament to how innovative thinking and persistent effort can create lasting change and inspire countless individuals. What lessons can we draw from the NFL's journey about teamwork and perseverance in pursuing our own goals and dreams? #NFL #SportsHistory #Teamwork #Inspiration #Leadership #CulturalImpact

Two years ago, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield were locked in a battle for the starting quarterback role with the Carolina Panthers. Both were previous first-round NFL draft picks, full of promise and potential. But it didn’t work out. Neither found success or stability in Carolina, and for a time, it seemed like the league had moved on from their once-bright futures. Fast forward to 2025, and both Darnold and Mayfield are now leading their respective teams to the NFL playoffs. What changed? It’s a powerful reminder of how critical fit is—not just in football, but in business and life. In business, we often talk about product-market fit, or in this case, player-team fit. It’s the alignment between a player’s unique skill set and a team’s system, coaching style, and culture. For Darnold and Mayfield, Carolina wasn’t the right fit for their talents. But in their new environments, with systems tailored to their strengths, they’ve thrived. The same is true for person-culture fit in our professional lives. Even the most talented individuals can struggle in the wrong environment. You can’t put a square peg in a round hole and expect success. The right fit isn’t just about skills—it’s about aligning values, personality, and vision. This story is a testament to perseverance and finding the right place to shine. It’s not that Darnold and Mayfield weren’t good enough—it’s that they hadn’t yet found their match. When you do, magic can happen. In football, business, or any walk of life, finding the right fit can make all the difference. Whether you’re the product, the market, the person, or the culture, alignment isn’t just important—it’s transformative.

David Shaw's candidacy for the offensive coordinator position with the Chicago Bears deserves a closer look. His track record, notably as the former head coach at Stanford University, reflects a wealth of experience and strategic mindset that could greatly benefit the Bears. When evaluating Shaw's potential impact, it's essential to consider the following: 1. **Leadership Experience**: Shaw's time at Stanford honed his ability to lead a team, adapt strategies, and cultivate talent. This sets a strong foundation for his transition to the NFL, especially in a role that's pivotal for shaping the offensive strategy. 2. **Player Development Focus**: His tenure at Stanford was marked by an emphasis on developing players both athletically and strategically. This could translate into a nurturing environment that prioritizes the growth of the Bears' offensive line-up. 3. **Strategic Vision**: Shaw's tactical acumen could introduce innovative plays and schemes to the Bears, potentially revitalizing their offensive approach. His ability to craft game plans that leverage player strengths could be a key differentiator under Ben Johnson's leadership. Shaw’s history and expertise suggest a promising synergy if appointed as the Bears' offensive coordinator. It prompts a larger question for sports management professionals: How do you balance experience and innovation when making strategic team appointments? What are your thoughts on the potential impact Shaw could have on the Bears' future success? Let's discuss in the comments. #DavidShaw #ChicagoBears #SportsLeadership #NFLInsights

Wait 🫷, hold on a second, ever wondered How your favourite sports leagues operate? how do these big international sport leagues operate? what drives these leagues ? who are the people who drive them ? what all goes behind the scenes to cater to the audiences of these sports leagues ? Well, These questions in my mind attracted me towards reading one amongst the list of the McKinsey's book of the year 2024 "The game" by Jon Pessah. as the subtitle says it takes me to an exciting and interesting new things which answers all of my questions 😀 Jon Pessah talks about the behind the scenes of Major League Baseball (MLB) (a north american professional baseball organization) from 1992 to 2010, focusing on the power struggles between owners and players, particularly during the 1994 strike. •It highlights Bud Selig's (Bud Selig is a former MLB Commissioner (1992-2015) and owner of the Milwaukee Brewers. He influenced modern baseball through initiatives like the wild card playoff system but faced controversy over issues like the 1994 strike and the steroid era. •His controversial role as both an owner and commissioner, the impact of the steroid era, and the financial issues within the league. The book reveals the greed and ethical challenges that shaped baseball during this period. •The book highlights intense conflicts between owners and players, especially during labor disputes. •Bud Selig’s strategies, such as revenue sharing and public stadium funding, reveal the complexities of baseball’s economic landscape. •The book explores the personal motivations and ethical dilemmas faced by key figures. •And how these power dynamics and scandals affected baseball’s standing as America’s pastime. Overall, THE GAME is more than a baseball book, it is a story of greed, power, and manipulation that in many instances gives a nation’s pastime a black eye. Glad and thankful that our Department head Dr.Hemalatha K.G. Ma'am assisted me in learning a new perspective towards facing challenges, that is the self-discovery and the importance of passion. Emphasizing how facing challenges can lead to greater self-awareness and determination. The learning about the value of perseverance, the impact of teamwork, and the transformative power of pursuing one's dreams, ultimately inspiring us to overcome our own obstacles in life. DOMS-DSCE

My Key Takeaways from NBA Future Basketball Operations Stars Program - Session #5: International Basketball and G-League Operations & Roster Construction 🏀 International Basketball Operations & G-League Global Relationships Matter: The connection between NBA and international basketball federations is essential. Strong partnerships help attract global talent and foster collaborative events that promote the game worldwide. 🏀 G-League’s Global Strategy: The NBA is committed to expanding its international footprint. Initiatives like the G-League International Draft and NBA Academies are paving the way for more foreign talent to enter the league, which is evident in the diverse foreign talent on rosters we see today; with plenty more coming in the 2025 draft class. 🏀 Attracting Young Talent: I am interested to see how the G League will continue to do its part to attract foreign talent to come play in the G by educating international players, coaches, agents, etc. on the benefits of playing in the G league; especially when it comes to top foreign talent because most top players overseas are pros by 14-15 years old. Would the G League allow a 16–17-year-old foreign star play in the G to create that relationship early? 🏀 NIL Disruptions: I think NIL will continue to be a disruptor in the G-Leagues side when it comes to attracting talent in America. 🏀 Player Development Paths: I’m no expert but I thought it was interesting to hear Dell Demps talk about the importance of creating a path for players to be successful and not to give up on players too early. I completely agree. 🏀 G-League as a Talent Pool: With 60% of NBA players having G-League experience, leveraging Two-Way contracts for succession planning and development is crucial. 🏀 The Value of Intel: I think it’s interesting how valuing intel varies from team to team. There should be a capstone project about whether teams who value intel are more successful than teams who do not. 🏀 Key Values in Construction: Honesty, collaboration, trust, and adaptability are vital for effective roster management. 🏀 Navigating Market Values: Understanding the difference between a players true value, market value and team’s value and how other teams value the player is an important skillset to have when building rosters. 🏀 CBA Challenges: The new CBA apron rules, especially the 2nd Apron, are forcing teams to make tough roster decisions, reminiscent of the NFL's roster construction approach. 🏀 Forecast; don't broadcast: When it comes to evaluating talent it’s not about what the player can do, it’s about what they can become. Your job as a talent evaluator is to not broadcast or report; but forecast what a player can become at the NBA level; specifically what skills will or will not up scale or translate to the pro level.

NFL | Washington Commanders | Josh Harris | The Value of Good Ownership To Buy a Professional Sports Team, an individual has to be wealthy. To Be Wealthy, that individual has to make a lot of good decisions. But Professional Sports reminds us over and over again that making good decisions in Business whatever that may be is different from making good decisions in Sports. Under the stewardship of Daniel Snyder the Washington Redskins were one of the worst run organizations in Professional Sports. Snyder not only made one bad decision after another, his decisions and general behavior were consistent with the Patterns of Bad Ownership. For Example, the Redskins were the subject of an Independent Investigation on having a Toxic Work Culture. After more than two decades at the helm, Snyder sold the Washington Commanders to Josh Harris. Harris came in with a Diverse Ownership Group which included Magic Johnson. He appointed Adam Peters to be the Commanders General Manager. Peters hired Dan Quinn to be the Head Coach. Quinn hired Kliff Kingsbury to be the Commanders Offensive Coordinator. Finally, Peters selected the 24 Year Old Jayden Daniels from Louisiana State University with the No. 2 Pick in the NFL Draft. Good Ownership is a Key Element of Winning. One Element of Being a Good Owner is having a proprietary process that aligns Ambition, Corporate Governance, Organizational Structure, Organizational Functionality, and Organizational Culture. Josh Harris stewardship is a reminder of the powerful nature of Good Ownership. While it doesn't guarantee immediate or even positive outcomes, it certainly increases the likelihood that they may occur. Washington Commanders #NFL

Great read on the strategy of Pat Narduzzi and his Pitt Panther Football team. The structure of how his players were getting paid was not working, and the ones who were getting paid were shown the door because they cared more about the dollar than the dream. Staff changes were made. Now after a horrible season (3-9) they are 7-0 and amidst one of the biggest turnarounds in college football. Two powerful segments from the below article : “But perhaps most interesting of all, the school’s NIL collective, in conjunction with Narduzzi, made the offseason decision to overhaul the distribution structure on the team — from paying each player in a tiered system to paying select players who earn it.” And : “We are careful with our dollars,” he said. “There are guys on this team that are not getting paid tons and they are producing. We know we have high-value players in the market. We’re going to have teams interested in Dez Reid, right? No one knew he could play. We are leaving the negotiating to the end of the season. “ #NIL #Strategy #Leadership #Vision #Alignment #Collective #Turnaround #Loyalty #Negotiating #PayStructure #Lessons https://lnkd.in/gfsb3Rs2

Sports and business have a lot in common and especially so when you think of the types of leadership that drive success. I've been watching more football this season of my University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes, it's been very interesting to see what Deoin Sanders has accomplished in such a short time. Yes he is polarizing, but so was Bobby Knight. There is no singular way to being a good leader, it is about surrounding yourself with the right people that buy into THAT vision. As an example, Deoin is very vocal, but holds himself and his team accountable. If you've watched these games, you see the coaches and the players do the exact same thing. They are VOCAL. It's about holding themselves and their peers accountable relative to the plan. This lets coaches focus on other factors beyond mentoring / coaching individual players to adjust the plan as needed (sports just like business is about starting within and looking outwards). The Buffs this year have adjusted amazingly well at half when they re-group , re-plan, and re-align on what needs to happen in the final 30 minutes. BTW, if this sounds like Netflix you're right, it sure does. Hire top talent, let them do what they're good at, and be candid at all levels in the right way (4A approach). I'm excited to see what this team has in store for the rest of this year and future seasons under #coachprime. Your leadership style has been entertaining and effective. Go Buffs! #skobuffs #gobuffs #netflix #cubuffs #leadership #coaching #ncaafootball #vision #football #sports

I don’t often post about personal matters, but today, I’m making an exception. My son and his teammates have accomplished something special – something that’s only been achieved a handful of times in our town’s history. They’ve earned their spot in their league’s Super Bowl, where they are set to face a powerhouse team from Franklin Lakes, a program supported by former #NFL coaches and players. As the defensive coordinator, I couldn’t be prouder of these boys. Their teamwork, dedication, hard work, and grit have been nothing short of inspiring. Last night’s nail-biting victory, which came down to the final plays, showcased their heart and resilience under pressure. In both business and football, success isn’t just about raw talent. It’s about strategy, perseverance, and rising to the occasion when it matters most. These young men have proven that greatness doesn’t require a big city or a national spotlight – it requires the right mindset, preparation, and an unwavering refusal to quit. To my son and the rest of the team: You’ve already made us incredibly proud. Regardless of next week’s outcome, you’ve proven that you belong on the biggest stage. Time to finish strong! #ProudCoach #Teamwork #Leadership #Resilience #SuperBowlBound #NextGeneration New York Football Giants #FootballFamily National Football League (NFL) NFL Players Association #WinningMentality #HardWorkPaysOff #SmallTownPride
