It's incredible to see how life-changing simple supports can be for people living with CP. Joining forces with other #nabDesign team members, Charlotte Priestley Kilmartin, Jen Harper and Ryan Lewien, we are pushing through disability, pregnancy, holidays and sickness to and finding ways to get moving and hit 10k steps daily. Me I have a mobility disability; it's hard for me to walk, and my daily goal is usually 3.500 steps. I'm adding in my riding commute, yoga and strength training to get to my target goal. Held In Our Hearts baby loss counselling and support services are a lifeline for grieving families; providing a Hospital Home service, counselling, peer support, community support and resources to help families cope with their loss. However, these services rely heavily on charitable donations and diminishing grant funding, despite the growing need for them. By raising awareness and funds during Baby Loss Awareness Week, we can help ensure that these services remain free and are available to all who need them, for as long as they need them. May is mental health awareness month and I want to highlight some of the excellent work that is being done at the Children's Mental Health Resource Center (CMHRC). CMHRC offers diagnostic consultations to families. The diagnostic process can be a confusing one for parents and caregivers. Insurance, DSM, and ICD-10 codes often dictate what diagnosis a child will be labeled with and parents don’t always get a complete explanation of why that diagnosis was given. Many families have difficulty accessing assessments for their children because of waiting lists for qualified providers or because of insurmountable geographic or financial obstacles. CMHRC works with families and healthcare providers to provide straightforward information designed to facilitate access to accurate diagnosing and effective treatment -- all of which can be lifechanging to the child and parents.
