April Fool's! 😉 No, the main runway at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg will of course NOT be labeled with «Welcome home» for the Eurovision Song Contest. No red flashing runway ESC hearts either sadly. Yesterday’s announcement was a little April Fools Joke that was made possible by our Art Director Art Deyneuve, the flexible ESC Social Media Team and, above all, the humour and composure of the team from our national partner EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. 🛬Basel is rolling out the red carpet for Eurovision fans in a truly unique way! ✨ EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is set to welcome Eurovision visitors with a spectacular runway display. As Basel prepares to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in mid-May, fans and delegations arriving by air will be greeted with the words 'Welcome home' on the 3,900-meter-long main runway. Additionally, the red runway lighting will form an Eurovision Song Contest heart during evening approaches. As a national partner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg has made this unique campaign possible. However, obtaining approval for the unusual lettering was no easy feat. The white lettering must not distract or pose a risk for landing gear and must be applied before the touchdown point. Furthermore, the runway lighting must remain clearly visible despite the attached hearts, ensuring the safety of crews and passengers at all times. A little spoiler for spotters: the first reference points for the lettering and the first test hearts on the runway lights are set to be installed this Tuesday noon.👀 #EurovisionSongContest2025
