📢 Deadline extended until 31 January 2025. 🔌Funding Opportunity: 'Space For Electromobility', Feasibility Study. Countries around the world are introducing regulations and subsidies to accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs). In Great Britain, the zero emissions vehicle (ZEV) mandate requires 80% of new cars and 70% of new vans sold to have a zero emission rating by 2030, increasing to 100% by 2035. In Europe, the European Green Deal is aiming to achieve a 90% reduction in transport-related greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with a milestone of 55% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030. However, the continued acceleration of electrification is putting pressure on charging infrastructure, supply chains of critical components, and the electric grid network. The deployment, upgrade, and maintenance of key electromobility infrastructure must go hand in hand with EV adoption to ensure that there are no bottlenecks. The ‘Space for Electromobility’ invitation to tender (ITT) offers funding for teams who would like to develop sustainable space-based services and applications that address challenges related to the electromobility ecosystem. 🚀 Excited to Share My Latest Publication🚀 I am pleased to announce the publication of my new scientific article titled "Sizing Methodology of Dynamic Wireless Charging Infrastructures for Electric Vehicles in Highways: An Italian Case Study." In this paper, I present a comprehensive methodology for determining the optimal size of dynamic wireless charging infrastructures tailored for electric vehicles on future highways. As electric mobility continues to grow, ensuring efficient and effective charging solutions on the go will be critical. This study takes a closer look at how such infrastructures can be strategically implemented, using the longest Italian highway as a case study to explore the possibilities. 🔗https://lnkd.in/dcNJYHaW #electricvehicles #sustainability #research #infrastructure #innovation #transportation

Report on evaluation of environmental bonus program published: More electric cars and CO2 savings but at some cost. Technopolis Group Germany has evaluated the funding program “Richtlinie zur Förderung des Absatzes von elektrisch betriebenen Fahrzeugen“ (Umweltbonus), meaning guidelines to promote the sale of electrically powered vehicles and also known as environmental bonus, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) together with the project partner Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI. During the market ramp-up phase from 2016 to 2023, the environmental bonus should help to gradually replace the fossil-fuel car fleet in Germany with electrically powered vehicles 🚗 🔋⚡️ Good news! Overall, the results of the evaluation show that the environmental bonus has made a substantial contribution to the electrification and decarbonization of road transport: 📊 The financial subsidy totaling 10.2 billion euros for the purchase or leasing of an electrically powered vehicle for private households and companies was used for the registration of 1.4 Mio. battery electric vehicles and 800.000 plug-in hybrid vehicles. 📊 In total, almost 2.2 million electrically powered vehicles were promoted, saving 4.5 Mt of CO2 (net) in the time period 2016-23, which can be directly attributed to the program. 📊 By continuing to use the subsidized vehicles over their entire service life, cumulative GHG savings of 27.6 CO2-eq. (net) are projected to be achieved by the 2030s. Socio-demographic aspects were also analysed. The evaluation shows that there are considerable regional differences with less use being made of the funding in the eastern federal states. In addition, the subsidy was utilised disproportionately by households with higher incomes. Interesting results for the public, as reported in German media like DER SPIEGEL (🔗https://lnkd.in/dvCbJwGZ), Welt (🔗https://lnkd.in/dfPDbwGi) and auto motor und sport (🔗https://lnkd.in/dUh_naSx). Countries like the Netherlands have mandated a transition to 100% ZEVs in their public transport fleets by 2030, supported by regional agreements such as the European Clean Bus Deployment Initiative. Government funding and subsidies, coupled with the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, are accelerating investments in charging infrastructure across the region. This momentum is fostering the affordability and accessibility of electric buses, further bolstered by substantial investments in charging station development, exemplified by initiatives like Germany's $82.7 million fund for electric and plug-in buses in public transport.
