Last week Kylee Frankee, Electrical & Instrument Technician, from our Cannington operation in Australia, won the ‘Exceptional Tradeswoman/Operator/Technician in Queensland Resources’ award at the 2025 Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) Awards. Kylee was recognised for her outstanding contributions as a tradeswoman and champion of inclusion and diversity at Cannington, its local communities and the broader resources sector. Since joining South32 in 2018 as an electrical apprentice, Kylee has been a true asset to the Cannington team. Now in a frontline leadership position and as a dedicated Peer Support Officer, Crew Safety Representative and Emergency Response Team Member at Cannington, she has demonstrated leadership in promoting workplace health and safety, psychological safety and inclusion, mentoring apprentices and supporting other tradeswomen. Throughout her career at Cannington she has been a strong advocate for gender balance in our sector, particularly supporting more women to be employed in operational roles. Kylee’s contribution to our communities and the broader industry is extensive, making her a role model for the next generation entering the industry. She has mentored Indigenous students through the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation scholarship program, volunteered her time with QRC’s education branch, Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy school program and other industry outreach programs to encourage young women to pursue careers in trades, and young people to pursue a career in the resources sector. Congratulations Kylee on this much deserved recognition! #womeninmining #awards #mining Vanessa Torres
