Reddit, Inc. is a fantastic place to go for user research. It's a place where passionate and enthusiastic people can go to talk about something that they are really interested in. It's taboo to use it for marketing, but we recognised it as a great place to learn from our target customers. Two weeks ago we took the plunge and asked the users of /r/OctopusEnergy to test our smart tariff comparison tool and tell us what they thought. Now that the dust has settled, here’s everything we learnt from our users… ⚡️ Lots of people want to save money using smart tariffs ⚡️ The numbers tell the story: - 11.6k Reddit users viewed our post - Unique visitors to our website increased by 92%, our biggest month on month increase yet - 50 people signed up to our smart tariff comparison service These numbers confirm our hypothesis: British households know that smart tariffs are a great way to cut their bills, but are confused as to which tariff is best for them. 🤝 Building trust is hard 🤝 Some Redditors expressed concerns about our privacy policy. Even though we have no intention of selling our customers data, this wasn't specifically spelt out in the privacy policy. This feedback was invaluable. To be your trusted energy partner, we know that reassurance isn't enough - we need to clearly state our commitment to never selling our customers' data. In an industry where customers distrust the companies which serve them, this transparency is what will set us apart. 👂 Our customers are our best teachers 👂 Listening to our customers is the best way to ensure we’re building solutions to real world problems. It is so important to help us really know our customers' pain points. Additionally, it has been great to source really tangible improvements to our product- such as being able to modify one's consumption profile to see how you might perform under a different tariff. Moving forward 👉 To everybody who gave us their time - thank you! We're working quickly to improve our products and are more committed than ever to helping solve real energy problems for real people. And if you’re interested in finding out how you might save money on a smart tariff, why not try our tool out for yourself?
