Science communication is the bridge between knowing and doing. When people understand the science behind climate change, they care. When they care, they act. It’s our duty as scientists to make the science clear, relatable, and impossible to ignore. 🌍 #SciComm #ClimateAction

It's hard to unpack everything I’ve learned over the past month at the Climatebase Fellowship. Every day has been full of informative classes, inspiring talks, discussing Capstone Projects, connecting with fellows, and diving into a wealth of incredible resources to go even deeper.💡I’ll be digesting all this for months! Two common comments/question I have heard since I started this journey are: ❓ "Climate change is a long-term problem" ❓ "So, what's the solution then?" During our first week, keynote speaker Dr. Jonathan Foley from Project Drawdown answered these questions beautifully. His talk mentioned the concept of the "time value of carbon," which is much like the time value of money: the actions we take today matter because their impact compounds over time. The sooner we act, the greater the benefit. As for solutions, there’s no single fix to such an enormous challenge. There are many solutions, each relevant to different categories of our lives. If we can scale them up, we’ll be on the right path to tackling this massive, daunting problem. Check out the video, it's worth a watch!! #climatechange #climateliteracy #climatesolutions https://lnkd.in/d6y29AHk

Protecting the climate - How the human brain prevents us from saving the world | DW Documentary Can the Human Brain Be Hacked to Save the Planet? 🧠🌍 Climate change is a complex issue with no easy solutions. While scientists have been sounding the alarm for decades, global emissions continue to rise. Why is it so difficult to translate scientific knowledge into meaningful action? 🤔 This thought-provoking documentary explores the psychological barriers hindering our fight against climate change. From the influence of powerful lobbies to the limitations of our own brains, it reveals the underlying factors preventing us from embracing sustainable solutions. Key takeaways: - The critical role of psychology in addressing climate change. - The impact of powerful lobbies on climate policy. - The challenges of long-term thinking and delayed gratification. - The potential of rebranding sustainability as beneficial and desirable. Understanding these challenges is crucial for developing effective strategies to combat climate change. By recognizing the psychological barriers, we can find innovative ways to motivate individuals and societies to adopt sustainable behaviors. Let's spark a conversation! Share your thoughts on the psychological factors influencing climate action. What can we do to overcome these challenges and build a sustainable future? #climatechange #psychology #sustainability #activism #documentary #science #environment #brain #behavior #change #future https://lnkd.in/gE--Q6bm

In our NGSX Pathway on Oceans, Climate Science, and Big Data we created this video to kick off our sensemaking. What questions do you have after watching?! Our global climate is a complicated system. It is composed of hundreds of overlapping and interacting subsystems. Many of these are not visible to us as they operate deep within the ocean waters or in the atmosphere surrounding the earth. While these subsystems may be invisible, operate at scales that are challenging to imagine, and influence one another in complex, often unpredictable ways, they offer critical clues in understanding important components of climate as well as remarkable global and local patterns in the weather. We invite you to🌿Climate Conversations🌿a space to unpack challenging climate topics, alongside community. John Averill will be facilitating this conversation, bringing insights and takeaways from the book, as well as thought-provoking questions for us to reflect on together. The conversation will be inspired by the themes explored in 'Ministry For The Future', a science fiction masterpiece that describes how we will (and already are) being impacted by climate change. Denying… Science…. Is stupid! 💥🌍 It’s mind-blowing! At the highest levels of politics, we still have people denying climate change. But they’re not just denying it, they’re proud of it! But let’s be real, do they even believe what they’re saying? Even though this video dates back to 2014, the denial persists worldwide. We must get more people to trust into science based facts! 🌳✋ Share your thoughts in the comments below! ✍️ Repost if you feel the frustration! ♻️ #ClimateChange #Science #FollowUsBeyond
