We have just partnered with MOEIUAE, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for a decarbonization program to retrofit 60 government buildings with technology focused on energy efficiency. The program targets 27% energy and water consumption reduction compared to baseline with an energy savings goal equivalent to 15,400 metric tons of CO2 reduction. The signing, which took place during the UAE Government’s Annual Meetings 2024, was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court. It was an honor to attend and sign the agreement together with His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. It is deeply rewarding to partner on such significant projects that will not only accelerate decarbonization but will also contribute to the UAE’s sustainability goals. Al Jalila Foundation has entered into a groundbreaking agreement with Positive Zero, the Middle East’s leading provider of sustainable and decentralized power infrastructure. This historic ‘decarbonisation-as-a-service’ Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) represents a first in the #UAE healthcare sector, focusing on comprehensive clean energy solutions aligned with the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050. Key Highlights: 1 - Innovative Agreement: The MoU encompasses on-site power generation, energy efficiency, and clean mobility, covering all aspects of decarbonization. 2 - Five-Year Sustainability Roadmap: The partnership aims to achieve up to 50% in cost savings and a 70% reduction in carbon emissions through a tailored sustainability plan. 3 - Advanced Solutions: Positive Zero will implement cooling-as-a-service, enhance energy efficiency, and introduce clean mobility solutions, including fleet electrification and EV charging infrastructure. 4 - Successful Pilot: A previous project featuring solar rooftop and car park installations has already led to a reduction of over 3100 metric tons of carbon emissions annually. On January 12-15, the Wärtsilä team in the Middle East joined a high-level business delegation that visited United Arab Emirates, led by Mr. Petteri Orpo, the Prime Minister of Finland. The visit was organised by the Team Finland network and joined by over 40 Finnish companies. One of the visit’s key themes was sustainability, and the delegation held bilateral meetings with key energy sector stakeholders including the MOEIUAE, EWEC, Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), Dubai Electricity & Water Authority - DEWA, and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. The group also participated in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (#ADSW) where various global sustainability challenges were addressed. Wärtsilä Energy was represented in the delegation by Toufik KHITOUS, Business Development Manager, Middle East. The various stakeholder discussions focused on UAE’s decarbonisation journey to achieve its net zero goals by 2050 and the pivotal role that flexible balancing engine technology can play in UAE's energy transition. Balancing power plants are critical in supporting higher levels of renewable energy while ensuring grid reliability and resilience and reducing emissions.
