We are pleased to share that prior to Christmas we donated almost 3,500 pairs of unworn kids shoes to Sal's Shoes to help with their school shoes fund, which they then distributed to children in need throughout the UK. Read below to see how Sal’s Shoes have been able to help children and families thanks to their school shoes fund. Charity—whether through money, food, clothing, or toys—is a vital practice that we should make a regular part of our lives. In Islam, even a simple smile is considered an act of charity. It’s inspiring to see people dedicate their time and effort to something spiritually enriching while supporting those in need. Here are some key takeaways about charity and its significance in Islam. Charity helps alleviate poverty, reduce inequality, and strengthen bonds within the community, fostering a sense of mutual care and responsibility. Islam emphasizes that acts of charity, big or small, are significant in the eyes of Allah, as I said above even a smile can count as charity. In fact , Zakat(charity) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, requiring Muslims to give a fixed percentage (usually 2.5%) of their wealth annually to help the needy, support social welfare, and promote economic balance. Charity is considered a way to purify one’s wealth and soul, reduce greed, and earn Allah’s blessings and forgiveness. The Qur’an and Hadith frequently promise immense rewards for those who give generously. Ultimately, charity benefits both the giver and the receiver, serving as a powerful means to foster a more just, fair, and compassionate society.
With Christmas fast approaching, I felt inspired to give back to the community in a meaningful way. I therefore personally took the lead in organising Christmas pamper boxes for women and children in refuge at Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership (PDAP). This involved planning, coordinating donations, and working closely with Deborah from PDAP to ensure we could make a real impact for their clients in need. Our Family Department already work very closely with PDAP who are a key provider of domestic abuse services in Kirklees so it was incredibly rewarding to hear how much this will mean to the families at the refuge. Also, many thanks to the two offices that donated, we successfully gathered enough donations to fill four boxes!

Please help. Earlier this week, I visited Parliament with some brilliant parent campaigners. They were there to speak to the Disability Minister and MPs about how to make life more affordable for families with disabled children. Their message was clear. - Make it easier for carers to work, by providing good school support and childcare for disabled children. - Value unpaid care more highly in the benefits system. - Give every parent carer a benefits check, and train DWP staff better. - End the injustice of families being locked out of their own savings. - Put families with disabled children - who live in some of the poorest housholds in Britain - at the heart of the government's child poverty strategy. We can and must do better. If you agree, please consider supporting our lifeline appeal. This week, your donations will be doubled, and that means we can support more amazing parent-led campaigns like this one, and give families the specialist financial information and advice they need. https://lnkd.in/eBdJPEHc

Sadly, each year, many families who have children with SEND are locked out of their own savings such as Junior ISAs or Child Trust Funds. Financial Advisers can help more families with disabled children avoid this trap by: 👉 Identifying SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) individuals within the family EARLY in the advice process 👉Understanding the implications of savings held in a SEND young person's name, once they turn 18 (it comes down to Access, Risk and Means-tested benefits) 👉Educate and guide families around these issues so that they can make an informed decision about whether to save, how to save and how to avoid the traps. Thank you to Anna Bird and Contact for helping to bring this important issue to the forefront of people's minds. #SEND #Disability #specialeducationalneeds #EHCP #SENDfamily #SENfamily #financialadvisers

The fourth point in this list by Anna Bird financial advisers should be aware of. It is crucial. Financial advisers can help more families with disabled children avoid the trap of being locked out of Junior ISAs or Child Trust Funds. My three key asks would be that we: 👉 Identify SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) individuals within the family EARLY in the advice process 👉Understand the implications of savings held in a SEND young person's name, once they turn 18 (it comes down to Access, Risk and Means-tested benefits) 👉Educate and guide families around these issues so that they can make an informed decision about whether to save, how to save and how to avoid the traps. It is often a rude shock for parents when a child turns 18 to find out that they cannot access savings. It's a rude shock because parents are not aware of the implications. Let's build this into the advice process. SENDA
