I was on the panel of interviewers for a middle management position. The candidate walked in. She sounded confident. During the course of the discussion... ...she couldn't answer all the questions and I felt it was fine. Then, we gave her the opportunity to ask anything that's on her mind. This was her moment to shine since it showcases an individual's maturity at multiple levels. She didn't have much to ask. Our decision was clear. What is it that she could have done better? - What will success look like in this role? - Are there any specific hard or professional skills that she needs to keep in mind? - What are some of the career development opportunities that a role like this can envisage? - What's that one thing that you really like about the organization. - What's that one challenge she needs to be prepared for in the next 3-6 months in this role? While these are some of the many that can make an individual truly thrive. Agree? Anything you may like to add.

One thing I've learned in my career is your interview for your next role doesn't start with putting in your application the day the role comes open. It starts with how you show up daily in the role you're currently in. So ask yourself, what's your true purpose? To fill the current role or prepare yourself for the next one? As the saying goes.... Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. Each day is a opportunity to prepare yourself for your next advancement!

Being a staffing manager is like being the ultimate matchmaker, but instead of setting people up on awkward dates, you’re pairing them with their dream jobs! It’s incredibly rewarding to see the excitement on a candidate’s face when they land a position that fits them perfectly. Plus, there’s a certain thrill in knowing you’ve helped a company find the perfect addition to their team. It’s like playing a giant game of Tetris, but with people and skills instead of blocks. Another rewarding aspect is the variety of personalities you get to meet. Every day is different, and you never know who will walk through the door or what kind of story they’ll bring with them. From the super-serious professionals to the more laid-back and quirky candidates, each interaction adds a new layer of fun and unpredictability to the job. It’s like being part of a never-ending sitcom where you get to play a pivotal role in everyone’s career plotline. But beyond the laughs and the matching game, the true reward lies in making a positive impact on people’s lives. Helping someone find a job that they’re passionate about can be life-changing. It’s not just about filling positions; it’s about building careers and futures. And when you see someone thrive in their new role, knowing you played a part in that success, it’s a feeling that’s hard to beat. So, while the job may come with its fair share of craziness, the rewards make it all worthwhile.

So, for those I'm a Celeb fans who saw Danny Jones win last night, something he said in his exit interview really got me thinking. He mentioned how nice it felt to know people were voting for him and not just because of his band or who he might've been representing on The Voice, but for who 𝑯𝑬 is. Since setting up SL Engineering Consultancy with Sophie and Thomas, I’ve never been able to relate to this more. The validation I’ve felt since embarking on this journey has been like nothing I’ve experienced before. At previous companies, every achievement such as securing a job, bringing on a new client, or making a placement was a win, but ultimately it was for someone else’s business/brand. As much as it was my work, I was representing someone else’s name. Now, doing those exact same things, securing jobs, clients, and placements feels completely different. Each success is a testament to our business and our brand. The validation we’re receiving, especially from loyal, returning clients, isn’t because of a well-established company reputation (we’re far too early in our journey for that!) but it is because of 𝑶𝑼𝑹 individual reputations. That feeling of being recognised and valued for who we are, the way we work, and the work we do feels amazinggggg! #SLEngineeringConsultancy #Reflection #Positivity #Recruitment

Why do companies often overlook the diverse experiences and skills that candidates bring to the table? It’s easy to assume someone isn’t a good fit based on a quick glance at a resume. But what if there’s more beneath the surface? What if the unconventional path someone has taken is exactly what your team needs to innovate and grow? I believe that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences that can add value to a company in unexpected ways. Sometimes, the most impactful contributions come from those who see things differently.
