Food insecurity affects every community in the U.S. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Many of us have experienced hunger or know someone who has. When we listen to people facing hunger and use the study's findings, America can choose to end hunger. Whether it’s advocating for a strong farm bill or investing in our communities, it’s up to all of us to unite in our efforts to create a future where everyone has access to the nutritious food and resources we need to thrive. Even when we disagree, we can all agree on ending hunger. Hunger is a challenge we can overcome together. Join us on our #nutritionmission here at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County by volunteering or donating so we can continue to provide nutritious food to our community. We are currently serving over 436,000 people per month on average, including 138,000 children and 86,000 seniors #wefeedOC #wefarmOC

September is Hunger Action Month. While our mission to get every worker in America fed and ultimately, end hunger is year-round, we are calling for all hands on deck this month. According to Feeding America, 1 in 8 people in the United States face hunger. That's over 44 million Americans – including 9 million children – who don't always know where their next meal will come from. That’s a sobering statistic, and it's indicative of an issue that requires consistent, collective efforts to combat. So, how can you get involved? Here are a few ways: 🤝 Volunteer at a local food bank or soup kitchen – See if your friends or coworkers want to join! 🤝 Organize a food drive in your workplace or neighborhood 🤝 Donate to organizations that combat hunger – Consider setting up a monthly contribution, or work with mission-driven companies like Sharebite. 🤝 Advocate for your representatives to develop and support policies that address food insecurity 🤝 Share information about local food resources on your social channels An individual action might feel small, but every step we take tangibly improves the lives of people in our communities who need it most. Join us in the fight against food insecurity not only this month, but all year long. Together, we can alleviate hunger across America. #HungerActionMonth #GiveBack #Community

September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to raise awareness about hunger in America and inspire action towards a world where nobody goes hungry. Food Insecurity: At times during the year, these households were uncertain of having or unable to acquire enough food to meet the needs of all their members because they had insufficient money or other resources for food. Food-insecure households include those with low food security and very low food security. How Many People Lived in Food-insecure Households in 2023? • 7.4 million people lived in food-insecure households. • 12.2 million adults lived in households with very low food security. • 7.2 million children lived in food-insecure households in which children, along with adults, were food insecure. • 841,000 children (1.2 percent of the Nation's children) lived in households in which one or more child experienced very low food security. Definition and data from: https://lnkd.in/gUqNEZaB Every big or small action is one step closer to ending hunger — whether you donate, volunteer, advocate or spread the word online! #HungerActionMonth #foodsecurity #foodinsecurity #foodsufficiency #foodinsufficiency #foodbank #foodpantry

Isn't it weird thinking your neighbor might be hungry? It boggles my mind that 1 out of every 5 kids are food insecure in this country. The food is there, but our systems? Broken. And our children who are paying the price. - We have decent programs in place, but they need support, funding, and advocacy to work at their full potential. - We have the food, but we need to build better pathways to get it into the hands of kids who need it most. - And most importantly, we have the people—you and me—who can step up and be part of the solution. A few ways to help: -Donate to organizations on the frontlines -Advocate for policies that strengthen food security -Volunteer at your local food bank -Acknowledge this problem exists! -Don't remain silent Childhood hunger is solvable. Use your voice. I believe from the bottom of my heart that we’re all in this together — and together, we can create a future where no child in America ever has to worry about their next meal.
