My 6 biggest struggles as a new SEO were: 1) Not understanding search intent 2) Not seeing SEO as part of the bigger marketing picture 3) Getting lost & overwhelmed with 1000’s of keywords 4) Not understanding how realistic it was to rank for a keyword 5) Getting distracted with things that rarely move the needle 6) Proving the relationship between SEO & ROI If you’re a new SEO & reading this, here’s my 2 cents: 1) Read Chapter 2 on awareness levels in Breakthrough Advertising (it’s true search intent) 2) Be curious & know just enough about other channels & how they can play with SEO 3) Start with bofu frameworks. Begin with keywords that bring business 4) Understand site age & authority Vs KD Vs the SERP results (ASK: is search intent being met?) 5) Content. Links. Technical.
