One common mistake in photovoltaic solar energy projects is not using torque wrenches to tighten the screws or clamps used to secure the panels to the metal structures. Over-tightening can lead to small cracks in the cells (micro-cracks) or visible fractures in the glass, as shown in the attached image. can it be treated? #Hydropower, the most widely used form of #renewable energy AND one of the most cost-effective sources of renewable electricity. All elements of the station including the dam requires inspections, checks, maintenance etc to ensure the highest safety, but the #turbines and #generators within the #hydroelectric facility work exceptionally hard, and as with all electrical machines, regular #maintenance of the generator is essential to ensure peak operating performance. With over 100+ years’ specialist engineering expertise and experience, Quartzelec is in a prime position to support #HV generators and associated electrical equipment within the world’s hydroelectric stations. #MALAYSIA was our most recent hydroelectric project, in the state of #Terengganu, a 400MW #Hydro generator plant based in the Kenyir river, consisting of 4 no. 100MW turbines. During inspection, the client had identified a problem with one of their #poleshoes and immediately contacted Quartzelec. The poleshoe was removed from the #rotor and was transported to the Selangor based workshop. Initial inspections identified that the poleshoe was shorted to ground and the team instantly set to dismantling the 40 turns of #coil from the poleshoe and repairs were made to the shorted elements. The shorted area of the coil was cleaned, oven baked, insulation layers were repaired to the required standards and the coil was pressed and oven baked. The poleshoe was then reassembled and varnished, and upon successful completion of insulation resistance tests, was safely packed and transported to the client for installation. These codes ensure that power plants contribute to grid stability, reliability, and safety under all operating conditions. Non-compliance can lead to grid instability, power outages, and even equipment damage. As renewable energy sources have variable outputs, they can cause fluctuations in voltage and frequency, potentially destabilizing the grid. To mitigate these risks, electrical engineers must ensure that renewable energy installations comply with grid codes. This involves assessing the performance of these installations under various scenarios, such as grid faults, frequency variations, and load changes. Conclusion: In a world where renewable energy is rapidly becoming the norm, grid code compliance is more important than ever.
