The Fair Share is live! 🥳 Yesterday we launched the equity charter, designed by Carta, Seedcamp, Phoenix Court, Point Nine and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. The mission of this effort is simple; building a set of guiding principles for founders, employees and boards to follow, helping maximise the best outcome for all involved in a ventures success. Glad to see equity getting the attention it deserves — and this charter is a welcome step toward clearer practices across the ecosystem. Thanks for all the work that’s gone into this. Reading the post and charter — and seeing the makeup of the launch panel — it did leave me wondering: > If equity is one of the most powerful tools for long-term wealth creation, how are we ensuring those systemically+historically left wanting in that upside - women and people of colour - are included in shaping what “fair” looks like? > Given that men hold over 90% of employee equity by value, and are almost twice as likely to negotiate for more equity than women (Carta data, 2021), what does it mean to build a Fair Share framework without (visibly) centring these disparities? > As equity allocation replicates systemic inequalities, how is this project designing processes and conversations that interrupt that pattern rather than reinforce it? These are complex, structural questions. But they’re exactly the kind that benefit from a wide range of lived experiences/voices. Looking at this panel, I’m not confident this was the case — I’d love to better understand how those perspectives were brought in, and why they aren’t represented at the panel?
Love it James Wright
Thank you James Wright and team for this! Extremely strong document; I get also asked about this complex topic and feel that your guiding principles answer many questions in a fair and transparent way. Anna Ott Tatiana Russo Lucia Paskert
