⚡ When engineering researcher Jonathan Ring went to commercialise his university business idea, he was suggested the university take a two-thirds ownership stake in Zincovery. 🎓 There is no unified approach to the equity universities should have in spinoff companies, which prompts the question, what is a fair deal and what is holding back students from launching their ideas as businesses? 👏 A great read from Global University Venturing 👉 https://lnkd.in/enQHRJ5a

On March 1, 2024, I announced taking an externship role with Extern, affiliated with the renowned Investment Corporation, Colton Alexander. Now, I can call myself an ESG Finance Expert. Today, April 29, 2024, I successfully completed the project. To be honest, this was a very challenging journey for me especially, combining research fellowship duties with school assignments, externship tasks and personal life. I knew I was going to complete the project because I always get things done. A few things I picked from the externship are as follows; 1. The world is more dynamic than we think and every phenomenon matters. Many trends shape the way people will act. I unravelled the over USD 4TN market size for green Investment as at 2022. This is a strong emphasis to the ecological modernization theory. 2. I endured till the end because of my passion for a sustainable world. Let me emphasize that climate change is a great deal. The rise in sea levels causing hurricanes and other disaster related focusing events is a social problem that need critical and active financing decision. 3. Financing sustainability could be done in varying ways spanning from waste management to energy transition. As a finance and social scientist, these problems must be communicated until they because national and global issues. 4. The 2 companies which formed the basis of my research, I.e., ION Storage system, Blue Frontier, Inc., pioneers the development and commercialization of a unique product which will/is solve/solving climate change. 5. A big appreciation to Paragon One Colton Alexander for such a great experience. I look forward to future opportunities. Now, my focus is on finding the intersectionality between Sustainability and Disaster Management. Christopher Boone #sustainability #climate #ESG

Our team at Innosphere Ventures runs the full gamut in terms of background and experience. For many of us, Innosphere isn’t our first rodeo. We’re navigating our second, third, or even fourth careers. Others are young researchers building a foundation for what will become their life’s work. From seasoned experts to undergrad and postgrad research associates, we are united by our shared vision for positive, impactful change. As a COO deeply invested in the success of both our mission and our team members, it’s my job to ensure that our research associates understand the weight of their role. They aren’t just navigating projects; they’re architects of the work products they create, maintaining ownership at every step. While our senior team members and I are here to provide support and guidance, the true growth lies in their ability to stand behind their work and cultivate skills in the real world. Because they aren’t just gaining experience; they’re building their futures - and the future of our client companies, as well. Many leverage the projects they spearhead at Innosphere as powerful testimonials in their career journeys. We’re transparent about the rigor of our expectations, but also about the unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional growth within our walls. The range of experience levels at Innosphere is our greatest asset - it ensures that every team member does meaningful work that matters to them, and pushes our mission forward in the process.

This is my close friend, Ashley McNamee. We were lucky enough to sit on a Kayo Conference Series panel together a couple weeks ago in Denver (thank you, Lindsay Burton!), where we had the pleasure of sharing our thoughts on the environment for alternative investing (private equity, where Ashley focuses, and venture capital, which I know a thing or two about). During our introductions, Ashley and I shared a giggle because neither of our career paths have been, um, straightforward. Ashley’s path: news anchor ➡ comms specialist at a publicly traded energy company ➡ ESG consultant ➡ partner at a PE firm, where she leads the firm’s ESG strategy. As for me, it was i-banking ➡ energy startups ➡ energy VC (where I found myself consistently jealous of how much fun our founders looked like they were having) ➡ Rescripted, a women's health-focused media platform. We might have giggled at our "crooked" career paths on the panel, but the reality is that, altogether, they have given us the title, “Generalist,” which I’ve come to appreciate so much more since reading the book “Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World” by David Epstein. Here are a few key points that Epstein makes that I ❤️: 🎨 Generalists learn differently than specialists, often engaging in lateral thinking, which means taking an indirect and creative approach. 😎 Generalists are often more adaptable, able to seamlessly transfer their knowledge and skills to new situations. 🏃♀️ Generalists tend to thrive in the long run, while specialists may achieve early success in highly structured and stable fields. What seemingly-oddball-now career experiences have given you Range? #careers #pivots #alternativeinvestments
