#SATLINKACADEMY I 🌊 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱-𝘄𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘃𝘀. 𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹: 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲❓ Although both originate from the wind, wind waves are irregular and dynamic, forming and intensifying under the influence of local conditions. In contrast, swells are generated by distant storm systems ⛈️ and can travel across entire oceans —sometimes thousands of kilometers—while losing very little energy along the way. As swells propagate, they may encounter active winds, which form new wind waves that can amplify or weaken the original swell, shaping the sea state. Unlike the short-lived, chaotic nature of wind waves, swells are long-period waves that organize by speed, propagating smoothly far beyond their generation area. 🌊𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮, 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 To truly assess the ocean, it’s not just about observing the waves—it's about measuring them. Xeos By Satlink’s Brizo is an advanced satellite-based wave sensor, which enhances oceanographic buoys with real-time, high-precision wave data, providing valuable insights for accurate sea state analysis and monitoring. For those working at sea, Satlink's 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 allows users to easily visualize and analyze these dynamic processes, improving safety at sea and enabling better planning for operations by facilitating a deeper understanding of sea state evolution. 🤝 Both collection and representation of wave data are essential for maritime safety and ocean modelling, as they provide crucial information to create a comprehensive and detailed overview of sea conditions. ✨ Discover how wind and waves interact across vast distances: check out how the fascinating wave patterns of the Indian Ocean look from our Satlink Ocean Manager!
