There’s a category of #military brats that are especially deserving of the nation’s recognition, gratitude, and serious study: the roughly 2 million Post-9/11 military children who experienced at least one if not multiple parental deployments—most often to theaters of #war—in the 20yr period after 2001. Already by 2011 (the formal end of the Iraq War), more than 4,300 of these children had had a parent killed in the Iraq & Afghanistan wars. As of 2015, that number had reached some 5,000. It’s difficult to know exactly how many American military kids are survivors or orphans of troops who were killed in the line of duty during the #GWOT, or who they are, let alone the total numbers of children survivors of all those who’ve served in the Post-9/11 era: There does not appear to be any type of database or central repository of information from which to find them. Surveying the past 35 years with the Lucas Group, however, the nonprofit Fallen Patriots has estimated that approximately 25,000 children have lost an active duty parent during that time (whether from accident, illness, hostilities, or suicide). The majority of these fatalities were their fathers. We owe a debt to these military children that goes far beyond media pronouncements and themed events once a year in April.

Throwback to earlier this month when the GoVA team was in Washington D.C. for the NCRC #JustEconomy Conference! We had a great time representing the military community in the nationwide conversation about affordable housing for underserved groups. We're already looking forward to our next trip, which will be to Denver next week for #MilMoneyCon. Can't wait to connect with the financial experts of the military community there! #financialplanning #financialexperts #financialresources #military #militaryfamilies

Consider for a moment the metaphors that we are surrounded with… What might they tell us about our narratives? How might they influence the way we see our roles and those of others? Consider the church… Is it a club with members who pay dues, an army with soldiers, or a body with many parts? How about Young Life? What metaphor might you use to describe our eighty-three-year-old mission? https://lnkd.in/gPaZ-_A7

The Warrior Programme is one of the most impactful programmes out there in terms of the effect it has on the mental health of serving military personell, veterans and spouses who attend. The feedback from attendees in this post is not a one off. Almost everyone who does it leaves changed in some way. I was lucky enough to do the course 6 years ago and it was profound. The impact is has on everyone is different but I know from talking to other people who have done it that I’m not alone when I say it: ✅ either saved my marriage or saved my husbands career in the military (or quite possibly both) ✅ Transformed my mental health, my outlook and my life ✅ gave me tools which have not only made me a LOT more resilient but have also quite probably contributed to my success since then The impact has stayed with me - I still use the techniques I was taught even now. Quite impressive for a three day course. Absolutely delighted that such a substantial and well respected funder like Army Central Fund is exploring its programmes. Sadly like so many brilliant programme they have a waiting list much longer than they have funding for. So please get in touch with The Warrior Programme if you or your company want to support their work. It is scientifically proven and attendees are only referred from chain of command or NHS professionals so everyone on that waiting list has a diagnosed need. #socialvalue #armedforces #wellbeing
Today somebody told me, with tears in their eyes, that they believed the training programme they were attending would change the course of their life. The Warrior Programme, a unique personal development programme focused on building mental strength and resilience for those within the British Army community, delivers impact not just in the here and now, but into the future: through structured support its teachings are literally "built into the muscle". Sitting with a group of participants - male and female, serving and veterans, soldiers and officers - all on their final day of the initial three-day residential at the Services Cotswold Centre, I listened to them share their genuine gratitude for the opportunity they had been given. The Army Central Fund is proud to have supported Warrior over the past three years, to have been able to offer places on the programme for serving Army personnel and - evidenced by comprehensive evaluation - to have improved the life satisfaction of all those who have attended. Thank you Charlotte Cole, John Cummings and Rebecca Gallimore for the invitation to visit. Caroline Crewe-Read (Director) https://lnkd.in/dBDiTVHr
