In today’s episode of #LifeSavingSkills, I will share more about CPR; when it is performed, and how it is performed in adults. Firstly, what do you do if you see someone collapse? 1. Loudly ask the person if they’re OK. 2. If they don’t respond, call 112 (Ghana National Ambulance Service). 3. Ensure the scene is safe before proceeding. 4. Lean in close to the person’s face and listen for 10 seconds or bring your fingers close to the nostrils to see if you hear them breathing. 5. Check for a pulse by feeling the side of the neck and perform CPR if you don’t feel a pulse. How to perform CPR. 1. Keeping your arms straight, push down 2 inches deep at the middle of the person’s chest with the heel of your hand. Perform 30 compressions hard and fast at 100-120 per minute. (Make sure you allow their chest to come all the way back up between compressions.) To give Rescue Breaths, 2. Pinch the person’s nose closed while tilting their head back a little and lifting their chin. 3. Take in a breath and close your mouth over the person’s mouth and blow a normal-sized breath into it. Check to see if the chest rises and falls. Then give a second rescue breath Keep doing chest compressions and giving rescue breaths in a cycle (30:2) until the person revives or more help arrives. I’ll introduce you to another essential lifesaving technique in my next post. Until then, stay healthy. #Medicine #CPR #BeingTheDifference #LifeSavingSkills #Agyenkwa Watch the video below to better appreciate this lifesaving skill. cc Cincinnati Children's
