Today is world password day, reminding everyone that passwords need to have at least 12 characters with upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters to offer security. But beyond that businesses need to have access control and management, where an employee can only access what he/she needs to do his/her job for a limited time, nothing else. #password #cybersecurity #accesscontrol #leastprivilege #accesspolicy https://lnkd.in/eZWJJxJ9

For those who do not have a degree in cybersecurity, the National Institue of Standards and Technology (NIST) leads the way in building best practice cybersecurity frameworks for all businesses to implement. This is an interesting change of direction but points to the fact that your weakest link of security is... YOU! And me or just humans in general, maybe you are a security unicorn. NIST has said that they are dialing back their recommendations to have regular password changes on a 30, 60 or 90 day cadence. Why? Because humans tend to take the easy way out and although we might change our password we do silly changes like Friends1 to Friend5l, this type of change leaves your business open to a compromise. The manual password reset option leads to lost productivity because I thought I was on Fri3nds1 but really I should be using Fri3nd5l, now I have been guessing and testing my way through 20 min of failed attempts with another 10+ minutes of password reset. Automatic generated password rotation will reduce the window of opportunity for a hacker, improve productivity and take the password burden off your employees. How often do you rotate your passwords? #IT #NIST #cybersecurity #Annapolis #DC #Tampa #compliance #productivity #passwords #humans
