The 2024 G20 Summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18-19, marking the culmination of Brazil's G20 presidency. Leaders from the world’s largest economies, along with representatives from the African Union and the European Union, will convene to address critical global challenges, including sustainable economic growth, climate action, poverty alleviation, and digital transformation. This year-long presidency has featured over 130 events and meetings across 15 Brazilian cities, reflecting the country's rich cultural and economic diversity. The discussions span essential topics such as reforms in the global financial system, disaster risk management, gender equality, sustainable energy transitions, and strategies to combat hunger and promote employment. These efforts will set the stage for the leaders' summit, where key agreements will be finalized

G20 Summit in 2024... there is something missing from this picture.... hint, it has to do with gender equity. Possibly the most important meeting of global leaders so far this century because of the geopolitical and climate risks, and they couldn't reach satisfactory consensus. This moment will go down in history for all the wrong reasons.

On the world stage of economic discourse, Brazil holds a formidable place in the G20. Here's why Brazil's role in the G20 is pertinent and how it lends leverage to the global agenda. • Historically, Brazil has demonstrated an impressive leap in its economic prowess. Despite its challenges, it's stood resilient, maintaining its position as one of the largest economies in the world. • Brazil provides a unique perspective. From being a developing nation to an economic powerhouse, Brazil's experiences offer invaluable insights to the G20 on dealing with social inequalities, economic disparities, and environmental issues, to name a few. • Brazil and the G20 share the imperative need to address climate change. With the Amazon rainforest's crucial role in global climate equilibrium, any environmental policies conceived or enacted at the G20 impact Brazil significantly. • Brazil's demographic dynamism is a key asset. As a gender equality trailblazer, having once had a female President, it underscores the need for gender equality on the agenda of G20. However, it's not just about what Brazil brings to the table but also what the G20 offers Brazil. • With inflation and unemployment being significant concerns for the country, G20’s economic, trade, and investment talks are vital for it. • Brazil relies on the global scales of justice. As a fervent advocate for multilateralism, Brazil counts on the G20's capacity to correct global imbalances through fair rules. • Last but not least, the G20's collective expertise and intellectual capital provide a platform for Brazil to seek innovative solutions for the complex challenges it faces. In a nutshell, the relationship between G20 and Brazil is symbiotic. Each lends the other strengths and learns from the other's experiences. It’s an exquisite dance of give and take, reminding us all how intertwined and interdependent our global community is. The resilient and receptive, yet challenging disposition of Brazil in the G20 is reminiscent of its own national motto, Order and Progress. As we look ahead, the G20's complexity, breadth, and influence, sculpted by member countries like Brazil, is sure to foster deeper dialogues, progressive policies, and sustainable development for our shared economic future. #G20 #Brazil #GlobalEconomy #Sustainability

Pulling this up for this week: “Multilateral, global and regional cooperation is key. However, for impact to unfold for all people, action must be localized. Too often, we place all hopes, agency and responsibility in global fora that meet once a year.” Read in full 👇 #G20 #COP29
🌍 #SolutionSpaces: The G20 Brasil 2024 Leaders Summit kicks off in Rio de Janeiro today. In a new article, Katri Bertram from Light for the World calls on world leaders to make disability rights a priority—especially in times of crisis. With 16% of the global population living with disabilities, she highlights the disproportionate challenges they face during disasters, from barriers to evacuation to inequities in recovery efforts. She outlines three solution areas for tackling these inequities: 1️⃣ Community-driven action: Real change starts locally. Solutions must be led by people and communities directly affected, empowering them to set the agenda and drive programs that work for their specific contexts. 2️⃣ Global solidarity: While local action is key, multilateral cooperation remains essential for addressing climate crises, geopolitical tensions, and funding inequalities. 3️⃣ Accountability for inclusion: As G20 leaders finalize their commitments, it’s crucial to ask—who are we delivering for? Are people with disabilities truly included in these plans? Katri calls on the G20 and #COP29 to ensure no one is left behind and to uphold universal human rights in their commitments. 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dZPXKmq3 Christian Kastrop Markus Engels Dennis J.
