Sweeping bill to expand veteran health care outside VA passes House. I hope this Bill gets done. More importantly, once it is passed, will the VA have an implementation plan? My experience, when VA Bills are passed, there's never a "playbook" on how the VA will implement the new law. How will the process works? Even some sort of an abbreviated RACI chart that spells out who does what. Recently, trying to effectively implement the COMPACT Act here in North Georgia has been abysmal. Veterans have no clue what to do, local hospitals are clueless and in the end, the Veteran gets billed for thousands and the downward spiral begins. Today I begin a series of posts providing insight to our network. 3 things to know about #veterans in the VA Rocky Mountain Network: 1. Nearly 900,000 Veterans reside in the 500,000 sq. miles of our geographic boundaries. 2. 80% of those Veterans are eligible for care, 65% are enrolled in VA health care, almost 40% of the Veterans live in rural or highly rural areas, and 10% of the enrolled Veterans are female. 3. In FY24, we treated more than 350,000 Veterans and completed 4.2 million outpatient visits at our facilities. #healthcare #veterans #culture

A BLEAK OUTLOOK FOR VETERANS & ACTIVE DUTY UNDER THE NEW TRUMP ADMINISTRATION This just-released video from ABC News reveals concerning policies that could affect veterans and active duty service members under the incoming administration. Former VA official and Navy veteran Allison Gill provides a detailed look at the potential impact: 👉 Restricted Healthcare Access for Active Duty Members: Military personnel often don’t have a choice about where they are stationed, which means they could be assigned to states with strict abortion bans. In cases of reproductive healthcare needs—particularly in situations involving health risks or assault—service members might find themselves “trapped.” Without guaranteed leave for out-of-state medical care, active duty members may be unable to access necessary reproductive health services, leaving them in a vulnerable position both physically and emotionally. 👉 VA Hospital Closures & Benefit Cuts: Proposed shutdowns of VA hospitals and clinics, coupled with cuts to disability benefits, could deeply affect veterans who depend on these services for medical and mental health support. Many veterans join the military with the promise of reliable healthcare and benefits; reducing access to these resources could be a severe breach of trust. These cuts may even discourage future enlistment, impacting the military's long-term stability. 👉 National Security and Military Readiness Risks: Removing policies that support inclusivity, such as those allowing transgender individuals to serve, may create instability within the ranks. Dismantling these policies requires retraining or replacing experienced personnel, which could disrupt unit cohesion, waste valuable training resources, and compromise military readiness. This shift could also deter potential recruits who might otherwise consider joining the military, ultimately weakening our national defense capabilities.
