In a Culture of “Exceeding Expectations,” Here’s a Case for “Meets Expectations” — Holiday Edition. It’s that time of year when our feeds are full of lofty goals for 2025: bold plans, stretch targets and visions of “exceeding expectations.” Ambition is great (and I have some big dreams and goals of my own), but let’s be honest — sometimes there’s wisdom (and sanity) in embracing “meets expectations.” Take holiday traditions, for example … and my open letter to fellow parents: Dear Fellow Parents, Can we all just collectively agree to have a little heart-to-heart with our elves at home? Listen, we’re tired. We’re boring. Our elf is lucky to find a new shelf each day, and honestly, that feels like a personal win over past years. But apparently, some elves are out here setting up pranks, building ski slopes and leaving handwritten notes. Stop it. You’re making the rest of us look bad. 😉😜🎅 Let’s keep the magic alive, sure, but maybe with manageable expectations, okay? 🎄✨ As we close out 2024, let’s give ourselves a little grace. Not every goal needs to be groundbreaking. Sometimes, simply showing up — whether it’s on a shelf, in a stocking or as your authentic self — is worth celebrating. Here’s to wrapping up the year with humor, peace and a little less pressure. Rya p.s. Does anyone know how to build an elf-sized snowman in 70-degree weather? Asking for a friend. 🤣

The next two days will bring Christmas Eve and Christmas—a time when the world seems to slow down just a bit. This is your reminder to pause, breathe, and rest in the blessings you already have. Take a moment to appreciate the simple things. Maybe it’s the laughter of family, the warmth of a meal shared, or the quiet joy of knowing you’re here, breathing, alive. If you’ve been chasing goals, or carrying the weight of responsibility, let this season remind you that success isn’t just about what you achieve—it’s about who you share the journey with. For some, the holidays may not feel the same. Maybe you’re missing someone, grieving a loss, or feeling the sting of change. Give yourself the grace to hold space for both joy and sorrow. Life is full of seasons. Some seasons feel abundant, and others stretch us to our limits. But even in the hardest moments, there’s something to be grateful for—a memory, a friend, a quiet strength you didn’t know you had. Hold onto that. Let these next two days remind you of what truly matters. The work can wait. Goals will still be there. But this moment, this time with the people you love, the blessings you have—it’s fleeting. Cherish it. Rest. Reflect. Reach out. Celebrate the blessings you have, and offer kindness to those who might need it most. Let this season fill your heart, not just your calendar.

"Every Christmas, you give up pieces of yourself to keep others whole. But who’s putting you back together?" You can’t keep pouring from an empty cup. The holidays amplify the cracks in the system and in your soul. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Imagine a life where your needs are met, your boundaries respected, and your passion reignited. That life is possible. Ready to take the first step? Here’s how. 👉 https://buff.ly/3O1U0Fh

The holidays don’t have to be a whirlwind of chaos. Here’s what I’m doing to keep things simple and joyful this year👇 1️⃣ Focus on what matters most – Time with family > perfection. 2️⃣ Say “no” more often – You don’t need to attend every party or event. 3️⃣ Keep gifts simple – Thoughtful over expensive every time. 4️⃣ Take care of yourself – A short walk or even 5 quiet minutes can help. 5️⃣ Enjoy the little moments – Laughter, hugs, and holiday movies are what truly count. Let’s make this season about joy, not stress. What’s one thing you’re doing to stress less this year?

👩🏻🏫 Term 4 begins. And the end of the year feels closer. ⏰ We’re already two weeks into the final quarter of the year. 🥅 The goals for the year are being reviewed. What still needs to be done, what can be diverted, cancelled or delegated? 🎬 This is often a time of year when there’s a flurry of action and change. 🌅 Having returned from our reccy I am choosing how to face the action needed from now til we leave in January. ✅ I choose to think of this pre-adventure period as part of the adventure. ✅ I choose to create focus on what’s important and not let myself get distracted in the new and shiny (IYKYK). ✅ I choose to lean into my word of the year, human. I will do what I can. I will not always nail it, but knowing myself, I am putting the right things in place to get through a busy time with success and wellbeing in tact. ❓What do you need to do to get through the busy season and round out 2025 in the way you want. Having achieved what’s important to you. And allowing you to enjoy your holidays without needing to spend them recovering.

The holidays are here—a time for joy, celebration, and family. But let’s be honest… many of us already have 2025 on our minds. Planning, setting goals, and gearing up for the new year is important. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. But here’s my advice: Don’t let the drive to “get ready” take away from the magic of this season. ... Pause. ... Be present. ... Celebrate your wins, big or small. ... Spend time with loved ones and recharge. Because a well-prepared heart and mind start with balance. This holiday season, focus on two things: Celebrate today. Prepare for tomorrow. 2025 will be ready when you are.

Download this brief reflection template to muse over a nice coffee and mince pie before the Christmas break! This is how we do it at Power of Seven. We spend about 20 minutes reflecting on the year that's coming to a close, have a bit of a chat about it to a group member 1:1. We then move on to the year ahead and jot down some top of the heads thoughts and high level goals for self, family and business/work. Then we put it away and enjoy the Christmas break. This bit is very important, and no doubt you'll do it very well! Then when you're ready in the new year to set goals you can take this document out and boom, you will hit the ground running! What tends to happen most people is that although they put the document away before the Christmas break, their subconscious didn't (it mulls it over, and over). Then when they take it out again for more detailed goal planning they have much greater clarity. Give it a go? If you'd like the template we use for the more detailed goal planning in the new year then drop me a DM? I will also send you a slide deck on 'Achieving Your 2025 GOALS' which includes the system that I and many Po7 members use to great effect over the years. "You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." James Clear (Atomic Habits)

4moUpdate: Snowflake the Elf brought a snowman back from the North Pole last night. Unfortunately, it melted before we woke up. In a culture of exceeding expectations, sometimes even elves have to embrace “meets expectations.” 😉🎄✨
