Nicole Walkowiak, RN, a Rush nurse and Rush University student, is not only a leader in inpatient wound care but also a compassionate advocate for Chicago’s unhoused community. Every Saturday, she volunteers with The Night Ministry's street medicine team, providing essential wound care and outreach to people in need across the city. Nicole’s dedication to serving those most at risk earned her the first-ever Daisy Health Equity Award at Rush. Through her Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, Nicole has developed standardized wound care guidelines, secured donations for wound care kits and educated other providers on best practices and treatment. Her tireless efforts are making a real difference in reducing health disparities for Chicago’s most vulnerable populations. Thank you, Nicole, for your dedication to health equity and for being a true reflection of Rush’s values in action.
