A statement from me NSPCC Paul Carberry Action for Children Lynn Perry MBE Barnardo's Anna Feuchtwang National Children's Bureau Mark Russell 🇺🇦 The Children's Society Ahead of the General Election on 4th July, it is crucial that the needs of babies, children and young people are prioritised. They deserve safer, happier and healthier childhoods and more equal access to opportunities. All political leaders must now use their manifestos to set out plans to tackle child poverty, provide more support for young people’s mental health and wellbeing, and invest in children’s social care. We have a crucial opportunity to put children’s concerns and experiences at the centre of decision making – to bring children to the table. We look forward to working with political parties as they harness this opportunity. We also call on party leaders to take the groundbreaking step of closely involving children and young people in the televised leadership debates. What better way to show that they value children and young people than to include them in these key conversations? #safeguarding #childprotection #childrights #UKGeneralElection #ChildrenAtTheTable https://lnkd.in/err-4DXh

In today’s climate, the challenges our communities face can feel overwhelming. As the director of a non-profit, I witness firsthand the growing needs of families and individuals who are struggling. Now more than ever, it is crucial to support your local helpers—those of us who are tirelessly working to bear the weight of these needs. When you support non-profits like ours, you become part of the solution. Rather than simply watching the news and feeling shocked or helpless, I urge you to seek out those “little guys” in your community and help us help others. One impactful way to do this is by donating food. With the cost of groceries rising, the demand on food banks is increasing tremendously. Consider organizing a drive for us—whether it’s for hygiene products, diapers, or non-perishable food items. These resources are at critically low levels, and the demand is higher than ever. As marginalized communities face increased challenges, our collective resilience is needed more than ever. I don’t often post messages like this, but I believe it’s vital for me and for Northeast Youth and Family Services to remind everyone that we are always here to help. But we can only do so if our community unites around us and recognizes the intrinsic value in every life that is in need. Let’s work together, support one another, and show that compassion and solidarity can make a genuine difference. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to uplifting our community. Together, we can create change. neyfs.org

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day recognizes the devastating multi-generational impacts of the residential school system. Non-Indigenous people are called to meaningful ongoing learning and commitments to support survivors, families and communities. Here are some resources for today and beyond: 🔸 One Day's Pay (mobilized by The Circle on Philanthropy), a campaign to contribute one day's pay or what you can afford to Indigenous-led projects, movements, organizations and nations. https://www.onedayspay.ca/ 🔸 Orange Shirt Society, an organization created to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of Indian Residential Schools. https://lnkd.in/gdCiqjsi 🔸 National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation reports including the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and Where are the Children Buried? https://lnkd.in/dgR8dE3h

Restricted funding dampens the progress locally led movements can make. Flexible funding empowers organizations to respond to community needs quickly, innovate to overcome new threats, and create lasting systemic change. But, flexible funding accounts for just 20% of total giving. Clare Gibson Nangle from The Fund for Global Human Rights and others explore how unrestricted support can fuel human rights and social justice—and why it’s time for donors to shift the power. 262 days with ZERO SAFE HAVE ACCESS for ALL youth in Ocean and Monmouth County, NJ (approx 162,813 10 to 19 year-olds without any local help). Newark is the ONLY option for youth under 18 - for many in Ocean County, this city is over an hour away. It DEMANDS YOUTH LEAVE their self-made support networks made up of peers, teachers and coaches. It FORCES YOUNG PEOPLE to leave their communities. And it INSISTS URBAN CITIES foot the bill for suburban youth. This is NOT the way evidence shows is best for addressing the mental, emotional, and behavioral needs of youth and families in need of support services. Youth have a FEDERAL RIGHT to runaway and stay safe. If we deny them local safe refuge, they are more at-risk of human and CHILD TRAFFICKING, offering SURVIVAL SEX, and a litany of negative outcomes. Help CLCL Foundation RESTORE SANCTUARY ACCESS and expand preventative services to thwart runaway and homeless youth. There is an evidence-based, trauma-informed, antiracist and inclusive way to provide services. Problems have SOLUTIONS - only TOGETHER can we have the wisdom and power to make the difference. Ok - so you may be one of those people who saw all the #GivingTuesday posts and thought it would be good to support them but ended up not doing anything. Well, I have great news for you - today can be #Ididnotletanotheropportunitypass day! And I have even better news - you can do it and get 100% of your donation back! I am talking about supporting one of the amazing Foster Care Organizations in Georgia by making a donation through the Fostering Success Act Tax Credit. As long as you are a Georgia taxpayer, you can be approved (it just takes a few minutes) and make a donation then get 100% of the money back when you file your taxes in 2025. Below is a link to the Goshen Valley website (the Foster Care Organization I support) which has an easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to take advantage of this. When you go to the State of Georgia website you will see the other 38 approved FCO's if you want to find one in your area. These organizations depend on our support - and the donations from the tax credit are a GAME CHANGER for them! So there it is...will you let another opportunity go by or will you take a few minutes and change lives for the better? For those of you that support this post, please like or share and help get the word out. Let's make today #Ididnotletanotheropportunitypass day!
