There is no argument that the first half of the 2020s has been a time of rapid change in law enforcement and the vast majority of officers have amended the way they fulfill their day-to-day duties. To ensure their success, it’s imperative that the training they receive reflects this new reality. In the article below, we discuss challenges that impede academy and in-service training and what agencies can do in 2025 to ensure every officer is prepared. https://hubs.ly/Q033mtlM0

When training police officers, there really is no excuse for scenario-based training. Some departments write policies and have their officers sign that they read and understand the policy. This is very short-sighted. Some departments up their game by sitting officers down in a classroom setting in order to explain the policy. The best departmental training comes from explaining the policy in the classroom, then use scenario-based training to reinforce expectations. Allowing the officer to successfully practice what they learned in the classroom is the key. I was happy to hear that MLEA has taken the latter approach to training. I predict more success for Montana law enforcement.
