Wow! New partnership in the weight care arena as Ro partners with Eli Lilly and Company to offer Zepbound single dose vials through Ro, enabled by Lilly's Direct to consumer LillyDirect platform. This enables consumers to have more options - easier access to prescriptions and branded medication at a lower cost than the standard prescription without the potential risks of using compounded medication. (Sort of a meet in the middle option.) Also interesting to see LillyDirect expand the number of partners it's working with in the obesity space. Unsurprisingly only 10% of Ozempic went to Medicare patients New JAMA study highlights the key challenges in access to AOMs like Ozempic. The high level data points are; - There were 2.6 million prescription fills in December 2023 but less than 10% of Ozempic or Wegovy prescriptions went to patients with Medicaid, per the data from IQVIA's National Prescription Audit PayerTrak. - Less than 30% of Ozempic prescriptions and only 1.2% of Wegovy prescriptions were filled for patients on Medicare Part D plans. - Roughly 1% or less went to people paying cash. How ethical is Direct to Consumer advertising for insanely high-priced prescription drugs which the average consumer could never afford? Who pays? Indirectly, we who pay for ever-higher rates for health insurance and healthcare and we who pay taxes (which are used to fund Medicaid and Medicare).

Eli Lilly and direct-to-consumer healthcare startup Ro are working together to improve affordable access to Lilly's prescription drug Zepbound. CNBC reported: "Ro will offer a 'complete end-to-end' experience on a single platform and app, allowing eligible patients to receive a diagnosis and a prescription for Zepbound and have vials of the drug delivered to their homes" & that this is enabled by a "first-of-a-kind integration with Eli Lilly’s direct-to-consumer website, LillyDirect, which already offers home delivery of Zepbound vials through a third-party digital pharmacy, Gifthealth."
