Nobody earns their way to heaven through good works. God saves us by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Still, good works are important as a loving response to God's great gift of salvation. In fact, as His workmanship, He has created us for good works. Here's the August 26 devotional from my "Next Step Devotions" book, based on Ephesians 2:1-10. https://lnkd.in/eEHNDVtK

🌅 Children of the Day: Awake, Alert, and Armored in Christ 🛡️ 'But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.' - 1 Thessalonians 5:8 Paul's call to vigilance is as relevant today as ever: 1. Stay Awake Spiritually: Be alert to God's work in and around you 2. Be Sober-Minded: Clear-headed in a world of distractions 3. Armor Up: • Breastplate of Faith and Love • Helmet of the Hope of Salvation Remember: 'God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ' (v.9) As John Piper puts it: 'The Christian life is not a cruise ship, but a battleship.' Our Mission: • Encourage one another • Build each other up • Live for Christ, whether awake or asleep 🤔 Reflect: How can you be more 'awake' to God's presence in your daily life? 📣 Challenge: This week, intentionally encourage and build up three people in your faith community. Share the impact below! #SpiritualVigilance #FaithArmor #ChristianEncouragement #HopeInChrist #SalvationAssurance 💡 Let's inspire each other: How do you stay spiritually 'awake' in today's world?

The Simple three things we need to do daily
Are you prone to overlook simple things? It seems that we have been conditioned to think that the harder something is to do, the greater the benefit from it. In these verses, Jeremiah bring us back to the simple things...hope in the Lord...seeking the Lord...and waiting quietly for His salvation. None of these indicate striving, struggling or fighting. Although I realize that those are also part the Christian life. I've come to believe that if we do the simple things well, we are better prepared for the hard things that are ahead. And we don't leave the simple things behind when the harder things demand our attention. They help us deal with the harder things. If hoping in the Lord; seeking Him; and quietly waiting for His salvation become part of our DNA then we are equipped to withstand the striving, struggling, and fighting that is to come. Oh, and don't forget the promise..."The Lord is good to those who..." hope in Him, seek Him, and wait quietly for His salvation. So today, sip on the goodness of God by hoping in (depending on) Him; by seeking Him (in His written and Spirit-revealed Word) and waiting without squirming for His gift of salvation to be completed. (We ARE saved from the penalty of sin; we are BEING SAVED from the power of sin; we WILL BE saved from the presence of sin.) #donotneglectsimplethings #littleisMUCH #hopeinseekforwaitonGod

How to Grow a Dead or Dying Church -1. Beloved in Christ Jesus, blessings to you from our Father. Have a wonderful day in the Lord. Peace be unto you. During this season of the Last Days of societies as we know them on the earth, in America one can look around and see a church everywhere you go, but evil seems to abound. Additionally, churches are closing here and there with church congregations dwindling ever so slowly and the elders in the churches dying and going home to be with the Lord. How can there be so many churches, in some places—it seems to be five or six in every neighborhood or one on every corner—with evil prevailing, seemingly everywhere? How can we stop the apparent slow death of our churches? Here are some things, which I have learned during my short time here in America. You may find these ideas to be quite helpful in your situation. These are not necessarily in ranking order. These ideas work. Thanks for listening.

In Sunday’s sermon, Pastor Bill inspired us to reflect on how we can create a better world, emphasizing the importance of faith, but even more so, hope. Drawing his message from Psalms 37, Matthew 13, and 1 Corinthians 1, he challenged us with these words from David Chilton's Paradise Restored: "For too long, Christians have been characterized by despair, defeat, and retreat. For too long, Christians have heeded the false doctrine which teaches that we are doomed to failure, that Christians cannot win—the notion that, until Jesus returns, Christians will steadily lose ground to the enemy." Reflecting on Matthew 13, he reminded us: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches." He also reminded us: "If we don't have good news for the world, then they have every right to seek a savior elsewhere." ✨ Hope is essential for our lives, families, community, country, and the church. Pastor Bill asked us a great question to think about this week: What is your expectation for the future of America? For the future of the world? Let's cultivate faith and hope, working together to build a brighter, more loving world. #LSCC #SundayReflection #Faith #LibertyHill #Texas #Bertram #Burnet #PastorsMessage #KingdomMinded #PastorBill #HowToCreateABetterWorld #LiveTheGospel #Hope #Love #BetterWorld

BE ALERT AND READY. “The end of all things is at hand, be therefore sober and watch unto prayer” 1 peter 4: 7-11. Christians are urged to take on Yeshua’s attitude toward suffering; we should see it as an expected part of fulfilling God’s purpose for us on earth. Those who willingly endure suffering for Yeshua set the course of their lives away from mind-numbing sins. Everything in the world is about to be wrapped up, so take nothing for granted; stay-awake in prayer and be ready for your last moment by being ready all the time. In addition as believers we should use the gift that God has given us to serve one another in the strength that God grants, so that God may be glorified. Maintaining constant love, being hospitable and serving one another are what we are called to do as members of this community of faith; thus, we should be concerned to turn to those around us and love one another—this is loving your neighbors as yourself. Peter encourages us to use whatever abilities one has to get the work done (vv10-11); and they can be confident that Yeshua will return and His redemptive plan will reach complete fulfillment-- this can give believers hope and courage in even the most difficult circumstances.
