Motion preservation in spine surgery offers a way to treat pain and spinal issues without sacrificing mobility. Unlike spinal fusion, procedures like total disc replacement aim to relieve pain while maintaining natural movement and reducing stress on adjacent vertebrae. Recovery is often faster, and some patients return to active lifestyles sooner. Explore the advantages and insights shared by Resurges Orthopaedics' Dr. Christopher Blanchard on this transformative approach to spine health. Read the blog 💻📰 here: https://ow.ly/cIvz50ULt4w

"Post-surgical pain? Let’s QL it down a notch!" Today’s highlight: performing an ultrasound-guided Quadratus Lumborum (QL) block in a child undergoing abdominal surgery to tackle post-surgical pain. With ultrasound in hand, we guide the needle with precision (no guessing games here!) and watch the local anesthetic spread just right between the QL and the psoas muscle. It’s incredibly satisfying. This technique is a superhero move for post-op recovery, helping patients feel comfortable enough to focus on healing instead of hurting. #PostSurgicalPain #QLBlock #Ultrasound #PainReliefInnovation #PainManagement #Anaesthesia

Two patients, same diagnosis: high-grade spondylolisthesis. Both experienced severe pain and functional challenges. Both underwent surgery. Both are now thriving. I used two slightly different surgical techniques tailored to their anatomy and neurological status, with the main goals of restoring nerve function and spinal alignment. High-grade spondy reduction comes with its risks, as there’s always a delicate balance between stabilizing the spine and protecting the nerves. But when corrected, the improvement in quality of life is remarkable. Recovery takes time, but seeing these patients back on their feet, stronger and more active, makes it all worth it! #SpineSurgery #Spondylolisthesis #SpineCare #BetterOutcomes

Another successful and interesting case! A 48-year-old patient presented with severe pain in his right upper limb, accompanied by a neurological deficit in his right tricep (strength 4-/5). Imaging revealed right foraminal disc herniation at the C6-C7 level, provoking C7 right radiculopathy. He underwent a posterior endoscopic C6-C7 right discectomy, and just three hours after the surgery, he returned home completely pain-free. The strength in his right tricep improved significantly (4+/5). On the same day, he began physical therapy to address the remaining neurological deficit. Minimally invasive techniques continue to demonstrate incredible results, ensuring faster recovery and improved quality of life for our patients! 🌟 Considering a Lumbar Laminectomy? This surgical option can provide relief for those dealing with spine disease and injury in the lower back. During this procedure, our skilled surgeons remove the curved bone and surrounding tissue that are pressing on nerves, helping to alleviate those uncomfortable symptoms. In some cases, the surgery may also involve enlarging the nerve passage for even better outcomes. The best part? Many patients get to head home the same day! Learn more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g7H9Tyey

Here are some dos and don'ts for physiotherapy in cases of lung hernia: Do's: -------- 1.Breathing Exercises: Engage in deep breathing exercises to improve lung function and capacity. This can help strengthen the respiratory muscles and aid in better oxygenation. 2.Postural Training: Practice proper posture to alleviate pressure on the herniated area and improve breathing mechanics. 3.Core Strengthening: Strengthen the core muscles to provide better support for the torso and reduce strain on the herniated area. 4.Gradual Progression: Progress exercises gradually, starting with low-intensity activities and gradually increasing intensity and duration under the guidance of a physiotherapist. 5.Pain Management: Use techniques such as heat or ice packs, massage, or gentle stretching to manage pain associated with the hernia. Don'ts: ----------- 1.Avoid Heavy Lifting: Refrain from lifting heavy objects or engaging in activities that put excessive strain on the abdomen or chest muscles. 2.Avoid High-Impact Activities: Steer clear of high-impact exercises or activities that involve sudden movements, as these can exacerbate the hernia. 3.Limit Excessive Coughing: Take measures to control coughing, as it can increase pressure on the herniated area. Follow prescribed medications or techniques to manage coughing spells. 4.Avoid Poor Posture: Avoid slouching or sitting in positions that put undue pressure on the chest or abdomen. Maintaining proper posture is crucial for minimizing discomfort. 5.No Self-Directed Exercises: Refrain from performing exercises without proper guidance from a physiotherapist. Incorrect exercises can worsen the condition or lead to complications. Always consult with a qualified healthcare professional or physiotherapist before starting any exercise regimen, especially in cases of lung hernia, to ensure safety and effectiveness. #pulmonary #physiotherapy #lunghealth
