ResponsibleSteel is a not-for-profit multi stakeholder organization committed to driving the socially and environmentally responsible production of net-zero steel. Our membership and partners represent the whole of the steel industry and beyond. And together we have developed the ResponsibleSteel International Production Standard. So how does it work? The standard is built around 13 key principles such as biodiversity, pollution and waste management, labor rights, responsible sourcing and climate change. Steelmaking sites that want to become certified undergo a rigorous audit against the standard���s core criteria carried out by independent qualified certification bodies. Core site certification gives buyers, stakeholders and investors the confidence that these sites are operating at some of the highest industry standards on all aspects of sustainability, protecting workers, communities and local ecosystems. And now, for the first time, sites that meet additional progress levels for decarbonization and responsible material sourcing can market their products as Certified Steel.
