✨#BlackHistoryMonth✨ is a time of learning about and reflecting on Black history and amplifying Black voices. Gathered around the fire for connection and reflection, artist Damon Brown envisions an outdoors that everyone can enjoy and embrace. His piece evokes the stories and memories of the past, the vast potential ahead, and our collective responsibility to foster an inclusive outdoors.
I love how REI is so sensitive to the 2SLGBTQQIAAP+ communities!! I encourage all my design friends to apply because of how inclusive I know the hiring process is! Not 1, not 2, but 3 questions related to sexuality and gender on REI job applications! Yes, please!! Why can't more orgs be like this!? "What are my preferred pronouns?" Mine are Xie/Xir/Xirs and He/She/They/Them. Honestly, just depends on the day. "What gender do you identity with?" Depends on my mood, but either Non-binary or Bigender (sometimes Genderfluid too) "What gender were you assigned at birth?" I don't really care anymore. I'm a different person now, always changing, always growing! Thanks REI! Black Lives Matter!!
Why did REI endorse Doug Burgum for secretary of interior?
Beautiful!
Thanks for the opportunity to use my creativity to tell my story and to highlight our collective responsibility to ensure an inclusive outdoor experience for all! CreativeLou
It's beautiful
Love this.
I agree
Damon Brown, you did a beautiful job honoring the outdoors, the Black community - and our commitments to and in support of them. Thank you!

2moLove this. Damon Brown’s art reminds us that the outdoors is meant for everyone. Like Alice Walker said, 'In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect.' And she’s right—the trees don’t judge, the trails don’t turn folks away, and the open sky doesn’t care where you came from. This Black History Month, let’s tip our hats to that kind of inclusivity and make sure every community feels welcome to write their own stories and make their own memories under the same big, beautiful sky.
