WHY ATTEND DAV CONVENTION 2024? This is a question I have been asked repeatedly by many DAV life members; the answer is quite simple... 1) An opportunity for socializing with fellow Veterans from all over the US, making connections for your own advancement in your goals 2) A chance to immerse yourself in a discovery of information that will prove invaluable not just to your own self as a DAV member, creating new opportunities you never before imagined 3) You will experience a far greater understanding of what DAV is all about, the benefits you can gain from it, and how to help other Veterans help themselves as a member of the DAV. Obviously there is far more you will gain from the experience as a member of the DAV National Convention 2024, but nothing says it clearer than hands on experience! Rev. Week 24 Challenge - “12 Strong” If you haven’t read the book or heard the story of the “horse soldiers” of Afghanistan, then you are missing out on a pivotal point in our history in that region. This week’s challenge is intended to simulate this special forces unit’s maneuverability while facing overwhelming odds. Setup: Blue player gets one infantry rifle squad plus an RTO, a Platoon Leader, a 60mm Mortar, and two ICVs, and places them anywhere in the lower three game boards. Blue player then gets to place all 20 obstacle game pieces anywhere on the game boards. After this, Red player gets one infantry rifle platoon set of game pieces minus the 5 ICVs. Red player then places those game pieces anywhere in the upper three game boards (see photo for example). Objective: destroy your opponent’s will and ability to fight. Good luck, have a great Father’s Day, and thank an Infantry father for their service! Week 39 Challenge: “Succession of Command” The true strength of the U.S. Army and Marine Infantry comes not from weapon systems or platforms, but from the ability to apply perpetual flexibility. If either a leader or even a grunt with a critical weapon system becomes incapacitated, any other warrior in that platoon can step into his/her place and assume command and take control. This flexibility allows the platoon to quickly and smoothly fulfill the 9th Infantry Regiment’s motto: “Keep Up The Fire”. In this mode of game play, when a player loses any warrior, leader, or support game piece, he/she may (at the beginning of his/her next turn) choose any other remaining warrior, leader, or support game piece to replace that lost game piece by removing that chosen game piece from the board and placing the game piece that was lost in its place. There is no limit to how many times a player can do this; however, once a swap has occurred, the swapped piece is out of play and cannot be used in a later on replacement (to clarify, that piece is now completely out of play). The ability to swap a game piece does not apply to any of the asset game pieces (Sniper, 60mm Mortar, ICV). Good luck and share your Succession of Command plans with us in the the comments section below 👇! Week 36 Challenge: Mechanized Infantry Traditionally, Infantry Carrier Vehicles (ICVs) are used for the transport of troops to key positions on the battlefield. With Strykers and Bradleys, they are also employed as Support by Fire and Attack by Fire platforms to support the movement and maneuver of dismounts. In this challenge we will strip away all but one leader game piece per ICV to test the challenge of ICV versus ICV combat. Setup: setup 4 game boards as shown. Divide the play area in half and assign one half to each player. Next, each player gets 5 ICVs, 5 leader game pieces, and 10 obstacles to place anywhere they choose on their half. Good luck and share your experiences with us in the comments section below 👇. 1 year at Cameron-Brooks, Inc. Thankful for the entire team here (and all my other mentors)! 10 lessons I learned in Year 1 of Biz (Written to myself): 1. The transition was hard. Harder than you thought it would be, but so rewarding. You did it. You laid the foundation of your career brick by brick, with the help of so many others. 2. Mentors can make the difference. You have that all around you, organic and inorganic to the organization. Joel Junker, and Pete Van Epps: Thank you. 3. You will feel an itch. You will feel The Dip. In fact, you already have. The honeymoon wore off quickly. Work is work, so remember why you joined this organization. 4. It takes time. Don’t expect to be an expert right away. You will learn more in your first year, and in the first 5 years of your career, if you let it. 5. Embrace the Growth Mindset. Pound a stake in the ground right now. Commit to the mindset that you will never arrive. There’s so much you don’t know. 6. Add value where you can. Little things add up to the big things! 7. The sharpest, brightest, most intellectual, wise, and humble leaders you’ve met, listened to, and spoken to, have at least one thing (if not many) in common: They are READERS! 8. Be intellectually curious. LEARN 9. “Big Ears, Big Eyes, Itty Bitty Mouth”. 10. You are standing on the shoulders of giants. Your individual success is built upon the knowledge, achievements, and innovations of those who have gone before you. Those ahead of you have already done more for you than you realize. 11. Remember, working is important. Work can be – AND IS – a vehicle for things more important.
This former Navy Officer, Brock Dudley, has officially been helping coach JMOs through their transitions for ONE YEAR! And he's been soaking up all 45 combined years of knowledge from his two fellow Transition Coaches - Pete Van Epps and Joel Junker. In our latest blog post, Brock reflects on his first year in this rewarding position. This is only the beginning! Check it out! Then leave a comment - Which "Lesson Learned" resonated with you? Maj Geoff Ball's insights, combat experience, and heart wrenching dialog are critical to our nation's understanding of the impact from the loss of its most treasured citizens – those that have served and lost their lives in service to our nation. As the presidential election accelerates to a fever pitch, with name calling and unfulfilled promises, it seems that those leaders have forgotten the value of servant leadership, their responsibility toward those they sacrifice without reason, and ultimately being held accountable for their actions - wrongly taken. To reestablish trust between the Executive Branch and the Department of Defense and its Marines and Sailors require that everyone within this failed operation must admit to their mistakes...Corporal Hunter Lopez, Corporal Daegan Page, Corporal Humberto Sanchez, Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz, Lance Corporal Rylee McCollum, Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui, Lance Corporal Dylan Merola, Lance Corporal David Espinoza, and HM3 Maxton Soviak and their families deserve your admission of the truth. #goNavy #USNavy #veterans #veteransupport #veteranshelpveterans #defence #usna

Veterans supporting Veterans! In a recent interview with Infantry #marine #veteran Brandon Hagar (IG: hagar_thefitbear), we discussed the athletic expectations while serving especially from his lens of being in the Marines. Our conversation touched on the extremes that can arise while serving in the military, leading to unhealthy practices like yo-yo dieting, binge drinking, and emotional stress. Such practices can take a toll on one's body. Brandon's guidance in making healthy, long-lasting changes is admirable. His approach, which delves into the emotional and mental aspects of fitness, helps in making long-lasting, sustaining behavior changes. It's always inspiring to see Veterans taking care of their mind, body, and spirit. Let's continue to support each other in this journey.

Normally, my Veterans Day reflections center around my time with the Cavalry—the stories, the traditions, and the pride that comes with that chapter of my life. But this year, I want to shift the spotlight to an experience that was just as significant, yet often overlooked: my time as a human research volunteer at the Natick Army Labs. It was there that we faced some of the toughest tests—not just for our bodies, but for our willpower. From enduring hours in frigid water during the cold water study, to adapting and thriving at high altitudes, and even braving the unknowns of taste-testing experimental MREs. We pushed our bodies to the extremes in the name of advancing the warfighter’s experience, and it wasn’t easy. But the most remarkable part of that journey wasn’t just the challenges—it was the men who stood beside me. These guys were some of the best people I’ve ever met, each one pushing beyond their limits, united by the shared mission and the bond that came from overcoming trials together. It was an honor to call them my friends and brothers. The hardest part about leaving the military is the loss of that tribe, that deep sense of identity, purpose, and community. You can rebuild many things, but finding another tribe like that? That’s rare. So today, I raise a salute to my tribe out there—those who shared those trials and those who continue to seek that sense of brotherhood and growth in life after service. Keep growing, keep learning, and keep thriving. That’s what our fallen brothers and sisters would want. Here’s to all the veterans: past, present, and future. Your sacrifices, your resilience, and your stories matter more than words can say. Happy Veterans Day. #veterans #VeteransDay #military #army #humanresearch

Access to healing that is effective matters; it so deeply matters. We have to be willing to hear and learn from those who are suffering. We have to be willing to look at the qualitative along side the quantitative. These medicines are so deeply effective in alleviating unimaginable suffering, what for many is life-ending suffering. We have to be willing to listen even when those who are sharing their experiences don’t match what we personally have experienced. We have to stop blaming the suffering and take responsibility for securing safe pathways to remission that actually work. #MentalHealthAwareness #TARAMind #VETS #HealingMatters #MentalHealthSupport #PsychedelicTherapy #TraumaInformedCare #MentalHealthMatters #BreakTheStigma #TraumaHealing #Psychotherapy #KetamineTherapy #WorkplaceWellbeing #EmployeeMentalHealth #WorkplaceMentalHealth #HRLeaders #InclusiveWorkplace #WellbeingAtWork #MentalHealthInTheWorkplace #LeadershipMatters #EmployeeWellbeing
