Starting my career wasn't easy. I had to work multiple jobs to pay for my education, and even then, I didn't have the right background or credentials. But I didn't give up. And when I applied for a job, I made it to the final round. I thought I didn't stand a chance because the other candidate had a better degree. But I was wrong. I got the job, thanks to my mentor Edward Moore who put in a good word for me. Many years earlier, I had asked Ed why he hired me as a summer intern, he said, "this role is about who can I help the most." And that's something I've taken to heart throughout my career. I don't just look for someone who looks good on paper. I look for someone with the hunger and drive to do more. Someone who wants to learn, grow, and challenge themselves. As professionals, we have a responsibility to build teams and train the next generation. And I'm all in to help them exceed their potential and actualize their dreams. Because I know firsthand that with the right support and mentorship, anything is possible. #mentorship #careerdevelopment #professionalgrowth

Finding the Right Fit for You... Your military experience is valuable to many employers, but it’s up to you to get out there and sell it. Whether it's leadership, problem-solving, or teamwork, the skills you've honed in the military are highly sought after in the civilian job market. Embrace the challenge and show potential employers just how much you bring to the table. Here are some tips to start thinking about: 1. Resume - help you translate your training into civilian credentials and speak better to what employers are looking for. 2. Networking - Organize your contacts and connections. Talk with friends, fellow Veterans and Veteran Organizations 3. Job Fairs - Veteran organizations and other resources to find the right job fairs. 4. Other employment resources There are so many resources out there to help veterans become successful in the civilian world. The question is, where can you find them? One great way is by talking to other veterans who have already made the transition. Another valuable approach is working with a transitional coach to help gather and navigate those resources. Don't be afraid to reach out and get the support you need to succeed. Representation of voices from diverse perspectives is crucial because it enriches our understanding of the world, fosters empathy, and combats stereotypes. As Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie reminds us in her talk “The Danger of a Single Story,” relying on a single narrative about a group or culture can lead to incomplete and often harmful perceptions. By embracing multiple stories, we can appreciate the complexity and richness of human experiences, promoting a more inclusive and just society.

An incredibly powerful message here about how majority of our talks and messaging is coming from the top 30-40% people with privileged background or upper middle class upbringing. A lot of wonderful #stories are lost in the absence of opportunity and sponsorship. Same with #talent search in IT. Look at 2nd and 3rd tier universities Same with aptitude and potential in #education. Be open to non-English speaking (less fancily cladded) brilliance of minds Same with #innovative #ideas from small corners of villages. Give them a hand, a push, a chance #empowerWithAction #talentsearch #futureofindustry #education #softwaredevelopment #growth
