Who would suffer the most if funding for Universal Child Care was cut and shifted to home base Child care funding? Project 2025 is a 900 page blueprint created by the Heritage Foundation and dozens of members of the Trump administration that outlines the fundamental changes that Trump and the Republican Party will make to the country should they return to power in January 2025. The Health and Human Services section of Project 2025 calls for shifting funding for universal childcare in order to prioritize home-based childcare stating, “Instead of providing universal day care, funding should go to parents either to offset the cost of staying home with a child or to pay for familial, in-home childcare.” The Project 2025 plan to shift childcare subsidies ignores the reality of the challenges facing American families. For the last 20-years, the majority of America’s married couples have been dual income households, making childcare by a spouse difficult for about 58% of that population. Additionally, distance, illness and employment are just a few reasons why extended family may not be consistently available to care for children. For many couples, outside childcare is necessary for navigating the challenges of a modern economic landscape and, with childcare hovering at $11,500 per child, per year, Universal Childcare, that ensures that every family has access to high-‐quality, affordable child care and early learning opportunities, is a much needed lifeline. Every child should be guaranteed at least three days per week of early childhood education for free, or at a low-cost fee of around $10 a day for households with a combined income of $80,000 or more. That’s according to recommendations outlined by policy think tank the Centre for Policy Development. The recommended reforms aim to reposition Australia’s Early Childhood Education and Care system as being similar to school or Medicare, where all children have access and those who need greater support receive it. #earlychildhoodeducation #childcare

As a parent, the time spent with my family brings so much joy, and knowing they have reliable caregivers provides a sense of security. Yet, for many families, the cost for childcare now exceeds the cost of rent, making it harder for parents to save, invest, or plan for the future. With American families spending an average of nearly 19% of their income on childcare, many parents face tough choices between working or staying home. It’s time to prioritize affordable childcare nationwide so families can fully invest in their futures. https://lnkd.in/etxr9gbj

On the Money: Childcare. It’s a word that can strike dread into the hearts of young parents. We all love our children but the economic realities of modern life dictate that both parents in most families will have to work outside the home. And that’s even before you consider that women – and it is almost always women who are expected to commit to family child-minding duties – have every right to an expectation that they can pursue a career path with the same ambition as their partners.

The average cost of childcare for two children, which the majority of American families have, is greater than the average price of rent in all 50 states in the country, according to a new report by the nonprofit Child Care Aware of America, which also found the price of childcare is more expensive than the average mortgage payment in 45 states. How can we make this more affordable for families?
