A few weekends ago my family and I spent some time at one of the local beaches. (I am fortunate to live 15 minutes from the fourth largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Michigan.) While they played in the water, I took a barefoot walk. I needed some decompression time - and I knew a little forest therapy would do the trick. Taking slow, mindful steps, I walked along the wet sand, then through the dry brush at the edge of the beach, and finally onto the dirt path through the woods that led back to the main entrance. And because I was walking barefoot, my steps became mindful and quiet. I noticed that as the path material shifted beneath my feet, so too did the scents. In only a few hundred feet, it shifted from the slightly fishy scent of the lake, sand, and heat, to the soft, sweet smell of the goldenrod and stiff grasses, and eventually to the cool, earthy aroma of dirt and cedar trees. The sensation of my bare feet on the earth along with my heightened awareness of the scents around me created a beautiful sensory experience that left me feeling refreshed and renewed. ------------------- Are you ready for renewal?
