Today, ERFA Board Member, Rail Freight Forward Coordinator and Director at Captrain Italia Silvia De Rocchi took part in a sector panel at the 4th #ERAmultimodalConference organised in Brussels. Silvia De Rocchi highlighted some of measures to allow intermodal transport to strive not just in the long-term but primarely in the next years: 1️⃣ A strong #CapacityRegulation, as proposed by the Commission, to move towards a more international, digital, flexible, customer-oriented way of managing capacity. 2️⃣ A more balance way of approaching the needs of both #InfrastructureWorks & network users with more client-oriented infrastructure managers. 3️⃣ A set of targeted, realistic, growth-oriented #investments on the network with a focus on key infrastructure parameters for rail freight and technologies easing cross-border traffic. [French Rail News] The fate of Railcoop, the French rail cooperative, is being decided today. 🚄 The rail cooperative wanted to relaunch the Bordeaux-Limoges-Lyon train line abandoned more than 10 years ago by Groupe SNCF. A great project led by Nicolas Debaisieux and his team. We believed in it, because Railcoop was :  - 15,000 members  - 10 million euros raised  - Second-hand trains found (a new train costs 18 million euros). The idea was excellent: to link Bordeaux to Lyon without having to go back via Paris, to open up the West and the East. In fact, this line should never have stopped. So why has Railcoop reached what its chairman calls a ‘treasury impasse’? 1) It has not found the funds to renovate the railway equipment.  2) Another barrier to entry is the reluctance of banks to lend to a cooperative.  3) A market of large portfolios: the entry ticket to open a rail market is between 500 million and 1 billion (source: Agence Transmissions / France culture). This explains why mostly the mega-operators who were previously monopolies, such as the Groupe SNCF, Trenitalia in Italy and Renfe in Spain, are opening up lines. ❤️ Whatever happens today, Railcoop will have paved the way for others, bringing the social issue of trains back to the forefront and demonstrating the public's enthusiasm for new lines. CFL multimodal, MAHART Container Center terminal, VTG Hungary join forces in order to set-up a new #intermodal #train connection between Budapest and Bettembourg-Dudelange, with the support of MLSZKSZ. 🚂🚛 The Luxembourg-based group CFL multimodal works together with MCCT terminal, the #wagon rental company VTG Hungary as well as the Hungarian organization MLSZKSZ on the set up of a new intermodal connection linking the terminal of Bettembourg-Dudelange and the MAHART Container Center (MCC) in Budapest. 🚂🚛 This train is foreseen 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗤𝟭 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 and to run four times a week, transporting both containers and semi-trailers (craneable and non-craneable). Rail intermodal transport is one of the most important pillars of the European Green Deal, and one of the most efficient ways in which hauliers can contribute to environmental sustainability. 🚂🚛 This project aims to enable road haulage and freight forwarder companies to take advantage of the opportunities offered by intermodal transport and to support companies who have not used it so far, to move from 100%-road to rail-road transport, thus enabling them to meet the mandatory ESG sustainability requirements. 🚂🚛 In addition to the newly launched intermodal train between Curtici (Romania) and Bettembourg-Dudelange, the intermodal connexion between Budapest and Bettembourg-Dudelange is meant to strengthen the intermodal service offering between Central and Eastern Europe on the one side and major South-Western European ports and economic centres on the other side. 🚂🚛 The Association of Hungarian Logistics Service Centres (MLSZKSZ) supports the project through market research and organisation as well as the management of the newly introduced subsidy program to Hungarian companies who wish to use the rail. 🚂🚛 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀’ 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. 🚢 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗘𝗿𝗮 – 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗞 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 🚢 Gardline colleagues Rory McNally and Steven Rick had the pleasure of attending the first ever Shipping UK conference in Westminster this week, organised by the UK Chamber of Shipping The groundbreaking event brought together stakeholders to discuss the future of the maritime industry with three underlying themes: ✅Decarbonisation of shipping ✅Vessel autonomy ✅Attracting new talent to the industry Louise Haigh MP delivered a keynote speech highlighting the government's commitment to decarbonising the shipping industry as part of the Maritime 2050 initiative but emphasized the ongoing challenges surrounding future fuels. Vessel autonomy was a hot topic. No doubt remote and autonomous operations will attract younger talent, albeit decades into the future. More pressingly, the UK industry needs 2,000 cadets annually, but current levels are only half that. At Gardline, we are committed to addressing these challenges head-on. We have already made strides in enhancing connectivity offshore, and we are dedicated to being involved in collaborative efforts to drive solutions within the industry. Our focus on innovation and sustainability ensures that we are well-positioned to adapt to the evolving maritime landscape. #ShippingUK
