𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠? 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬. You go from the high of sending out an offer to the low of telling an amazing final-round candidate, “We went with someone else.” And the silver medalists? They’re the hardest. They gave it their all, aced interviews, and came this close. But we had to make a call—and we chose someone else who aligned just a bit more. No matter how empathetic I try to be, it always feels like I’m leaving someone disappointed, discouraged, and questioning themselves. To all candidates: This is the worst part of our job. Truly.
