The intensity with which Andretti Global has committed to developing facilities, engineering teams, and even a car without yet being accepted into Formula 1 is proof in my eyes that this isn't a fly-by-night attempt to join the sport for the cachet. I haven't seen this level of commitment from several teams already on the grid, and their performances haven't shown any value to the sport IMO. Yet Andretti, with OEM backing from one of the largest American automakers, a history of entering motorsport series and being genuinely competitive, and a firm investment that doesn't rely on donations from elsewhere, is overlooked. Any other sporting league in the world relegates poor performers and promotes good ones. It's only F1 that is so obsessed with protecting the members-only club even when the performances of several teams on the grid are well below an acceptable standard. I can only hope sanity prevails and Andretti is given a spot on the grid soon. Liberty Media's assault on the American market means nothing if it shuns a genuine American entry to protect the interests of the existing teams.
