The European Parliament has adopted new measures aimed at making packaging more sustainable and reducing packaging waste across the EU. These updated regulations focus on cutting down plastic packaging waste and introducing a maximum empty space ratio of 50% for different types of packaging, while manufacturers are required to minimize weight and volume. From January 1, 2030, certain single-use plastic packaging will be banned, including those used for fresh produce, food consumed in eateries, and lightweight plastic carrier bags. Furthermore, to prevent health risks, the use of "forever chemicals" (PFASs) in food contact packaging will be restricted. These changes mark an important step toward a more sustainable and circular economy, pushing industries to innovate and prioritize eco-friendly solutions. #packaging #waste #plasticwaste #reducewaste #plastics #sustainability #CircularEconomy
