During the bill signing, Governor Hochul cited a 53% decline in gun violence year-to-date as evidence that laws passed under her administration have effectively combatted "a gun violence epidemic." S.744/A.436 will ensure there are penalties for using “pistol converters,” which are rapid-fire modification devices that can be easily attached to semi-automatic pistols. S.745/A.439 ensures that credit and debit card issuers use the merchant category code for firearms and ammunition for retailers whose bulk sales come from firearms, ammunition and firearms accessories. S.743/A.437 strengthens the existing law that requires firearms dealers and gunsmiths to post and distribute information about the availability of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and warnings about the dangers of gun ownership. Governor Hochul also announced a $370 million investment to reduce and prevent gun violence and strengthen communities disproportionately impacted by crime. #nylaws #nynews #legalnews
