In honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Pittsburgh Steelers partnered with other local teams in the Pittsburgh area to help inspire the youth. These are some of the boxes that they packed up this morning to send to local female athletes at Pittsburgh Public Schools to inspire them and also make sure they have what they need to compete. Today marks the 39th anniversary of this important day. This day began in 1987, a special day in our nation's capital to recognize women's sports. In the beginning, National Girls and Women in Sports Day served as a remembrance of Olympic volleyball player Flo *****. This day has since evolved into an event to acknowledge the accomplishments of girls and women in sports, the positive influence of sports participation, and the continuing struggle of equality for women in sports.
