Perkins&Will’s Post

The Center for Interdisciplinary Collaboration, Engagement, and Learning at Winona State University is a model for future academic spaces. Achieving NetZero status and meeting the stringent requirements of the Living Building Challenge, it integrates sustainable practices at every level—from its hybrid steel and mass timber structure to the innovative solar roof. These design elements ensure energy efficiency, water conservation, and minimal environmental impact throughout the building’s life cycle.    Beyond sustainability, the design also prioritizes student health and well-being. A prominent staircase encourages movement, countering sedentary habits and supporting an active campus culture. Meanwhile, a tranquil rooftop provides a peaceful retreat for students to de-stress, offering panoramic views of the Winona bluffs.   The new building brings multiple departments together in a collaborative, sustainable, and healthy environment, fostering learning and engagement both on campus and within the community.   #NPHW #publichealth #environmentalhealth #sustainability

This is an inspiring example of how sustainable architecture and wellness design can come together to shape the future of education. The integration of mass timber, solar strategies, and wellness-focused spaces is incredibly well done. Congrats to the Perkins&Will team on raising the bar yet again!
