Selling sponsorships isn’t the same as selling tickets. When potential sponsors visit your site, they need to understand how sponsorships work, not just how much fun fans are going to have. They need to see 1) The problem you solve, 2) A clear call to action and 3) Results they should expect. If you clarify your message, you will attract more sponsors. #sellingsponsorships #sportsbiz #beclear

2024 was an unforgettable year for sports—massive events, record-breaking moments, and plenty of lessons for operators to take away. It’s always fascinating to see how player behavior shifts during major sporting events like the European Championships and the Olympics. But the big question is: what can we learn from it? What mistakes did operators make? How can we better understand player churn? And most importantly, how do we take these insights and prepare for an even bigger 2025? 🎙 Jonathan Collins, our Strategic Services Team Leader, sat down with SBC’s James Ross to unpack it all—sharing key takeaways from the year in sports betting and strategies for the year ahead. 🎧 Listen now: https://lnkd.in/eJkrvGMd https://optimove.smh.re/7f

What do NET88, BK8, DEBET and MANBETX have in common? All of them have been (or are) shirt sponsors of Premier League clubs. What els do they have in common? None of them have a license to operate in the UK. Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers are the latest in line to sign agreements with Asian betting partners in the form of NET88 and DEBET respectively, in what both clubs communicated as being record deals. This does not come as a surprise, given that all betting sponsorship is still allowed in the Premier League until the 2026/2027 season, when regulations will change and front-of-shirt sponsorship will no longer be possible for the industry (which will then increase the prices paid for back-of-shirt and sleeve sponsorships, by the way). What's more surprising is the trend of Asian bookmakers and betting companies targeting Premier League clubs to advertise their services, even though their services are not available in the UK. Brand awareness is the sole objective here, and getting their name known to the wider public in Asia, where the Premier League is incredibly popular. Some of the aforementioned brands, and others, have sparked a bit of controversy though in their way of working, although I won't dip into the details of those controversies. I invite you to take a look at articles on the fantastic Josimar website, which provide useful (and worrying) insights in the way some of these brands currently operate.

What is a "right-sized venue"? My philosophy in working with organizations is that every club in a right-sized venue should sell out every match. So what's a "right-sized venue"? A right-sized venue is... Well-suited to the type of event, adjusted to the level of popularity and size of the market and fully functional throughout. * A venue's size is well-suited to the event when it doesn't hinder the enjoyment of the event. A play should not be in a 100,000 seat stadium. Pro basketball is not at its best in a 500 seat auditorium. Opera is loud and can reach two or three thousand easily, but not 10,000. Generally, professional football (soccer) should be in a stadium of thousands and not much more than 30,000. Baseball goes a little bigger, but you'll notice stadiums have been shrinking in recent years. Ditto American football. * However, you have to adjust this for the level of the event and the place where it's happening. A Premier League match in London can push the size of the venue farther than a USL 2 match in Peoria, Illinois. (Go Peoria City FC!) * And if part of the venue is non-functional, it doesn't count. There are major professional clubs that play in venues where some seats just don't work. Either they literally can't be sold or they're so bad, it's near impossible. This is mostly true in legacy venues, but these don't count. You don't have to sell these. But given all that, every club should sell out every match. Getting there doesn't happen overnight, but it's the right goal. I'll talk about why in future posts. (This is probably the wrong place for my upcoming piano recital.)

A friend sent this to me just before kickoff of a The Premier League friendly in Los Angeles. Take a good luck at the stands. Really empty, and it didn't fill up much, apparently. Why? Is it because there's no audience base for the Premier League or soccer in general in LA? Clearly not. They had pretty good attendance a couple nights later across town for a similar match. No, it's because the event was totally and fundamentally misconfigured. Tickets in the section from which the video was taken were well into the three figures, while many other sections were closed off. That makes no sense. The goal for a game like this has to be to fill the stands with a raucous, high-spirited crowd. The whole point of an "exhibition" is for people to see it, experience the game, build club and sport loyalty. None of that happens if, you know, nobody's there. Missing the mark this badly never has to happen. Let's talk about this event. It's a PL game, yes, but it's a pre-season kickabout. Most of the team will sub out at halftime, and nobody's going full speed. Still fun, but there's a limit to the appeal. You don't premium price for that in a 28k seat stadium. Even if you don't have the experience base to tell you that, it's not that hard to figure it out. They JLo'd this event. I have no idea why. But this is 100% avoidable...

⚽ Clearing Up the Football Ticket Waitlist Controversy at TKT ⚽ As the official distributor of football tickets, we understand the excitement and anticipation for these high-demand events. We’re committed to creating a fair, transparent, and secure ticketing process that benefits every fan, and I’d like to address some common questions and concerns we’ve heard from our users. Here’s how we ensure fairness for every customer: 🔵 Randomized Queue Numbers to Prevent Scalping To give every fan a fair chance at purchasing tickets, our system assigns a random queue number. This prevents ticket scalpers from buying out all available tickets. We’ve seen a 30% decrease in re-sellers compared to events without this queue system, allowing more genuine fans to access tickets. 🔵 One Ticket Per Customer For the same reason, we limit purchases to one ticket per person. This policy ensures that the highest number of individual fans can attend and helps reduce bulk-buying by unauthorized resellers. 🔵 No Special Privileges for Travel Agencies We often hear that travel agencies receive special access to tickets. This is simply not the case. Every ticket is distributed solely through our public platform, and we do not hold or allocate tickets to any third parties. 🔵 No Insider Access for the TKT Team TKT employees, myself included, have no special access to tickets. In fact, I couldn’t even secure a ticket for my father at the last match! We’re fans too, and we abide by the same rules as everyone else. We’re here to make football matches accessible to every fan while keeping the process fair and transparent. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a chance to experience the excitement of live matches without worrying about unfair practices. We continue to improve based on your feedback, and we’re grateful for your understanding and support as we work to make this process the best it can be for everyone. Together, let’s celebrate the love of football in the fairest way possible! ⚽💙 #TKT #FairTicketing #FootballTickets #Transparency #FanExperience #Waitlist
