New research into #mobgrazing by Rothamsted Research provides the strongest evidence yet that effective management of grazing systems is crucial, offering significant benefits for both farm productivity and the environment. 📌 https://lnkd.in/ePD4VRGB #hownotthecow #cellgrazing #grazing
It is amazing that in dryer or more brittle landscapes, it is the microbes in the stomachs of ruminants that do the same job that the microbes in the soil do in wetter or less brittle environments. Microbes are aquatic organisms and need a moist environment to do their magic, which is to break down organic matter into the mineral form that plant roots are able to absorb so they can thrive!. The removal of large herds of ruminants or herbivores in drier large-scale ecosystems has drastically reduced the effectiveness of the mineral cycle (amongst other things), leading to ecosystem breakdown and desertification. Large herds of cattle managed holistically are a vital tool to reboot damaged dry grassland ecosystems. This can lead to regeneration supporting the recovery of wild animals and native wild herbivores! So much hope!! Yes, it's not the cow it's the how!

10moIts great to see more and more evidence for how grazing systems can change, and help restore the land, and be productive. A virtuous cycle. #naturebasedsolutions
