First experience with the Kidney Vault- We recently accepted an aggressive kidney offer from Arizona. The kidney was shipped on a commercial flight on the Kidney Vault. We were able to look at the location of the kidney as well as pump numbers throughout the course of the flight as well as the time we waited for kidney Bx and crossmatch results. Logistics were such that the cold ischemic time on the kidney was a little over 47 hours. The kidney reperfused very well and made urine on the table with primary graft function in the recipient. What I like about the Vault is that the organ is completely submerged in preservative fluid which ensures that the entire organ is maintained at a stable temperature all the time. Remote access to all the pump data and location is ofcourse fantastic. All in all, very pleased with our first experience with the Paragonix Kidney Vault. I’ve started asking other OPOs if they are able to ship kidneys on the Vault especially when dealing with higher cold times. #paragonix #kidneyvault #UTMC

Great news. I know is a long cold ischemia time but this kidney was a young kidney? Do you use the same technology withbmarginal kidneys? What r the results?

That’s interesting. What’s the total cost for the vault? Are commercial insurance companies covering yet?

Thank you, Dr. Yadav! Our hope is that soon any surgeon anywhere at any time can ask for a kidney be delivered to them on pump irrespective of donor or recipient location. You sharing your experience will certainly help us get there faster!
