As a key team member on my recent project at a Potash mine site, we encountered a critical safety issue: a spark was emitted from a cable that was mistakenly assumed to be de-energized. Recognizing the urgency of addressing this incident, I applied the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) framework to systematically resolve the issue and prevent future occurrences. Using root cause analysis, I thoroughly investigated the incident to uncover the underlying factors that contributed to the misclassification of the cable's status. I measured the impact of the incident, including potential risks to team safety, project timelines, and overall costs. Based on these findings, I implemented targeted improvements by revising the TRAP (Task, Risk and Assessment Plan), including enhanced safety protocols and stricter verification processes for de-energizing cables. Additionally, I organized comprehensive safety re-training sessions for the entire team, ensuring that everyone was equipped with the knowledge and skills to follow the improved procedures effectively. These efforts resulted in the identification and elimination of inefficiencies within our processes, leading to significant cost savings and improved safety and quality metrics. Beyond the tangible outcomes, this experience strengthened my expertise in project management and problem-solving, while reinforcing the critical role of continuous improvement in driving organizational excellence and fostering a culture of safety and accountability.

Six months at Worley as a Project Risk Advisor: Time flies when you're mitigating risks and maximizing opportunities! What a ride it's been! I went from subsea equipments to carbon capture facilities, my journey at Worley has been nothing short of exhilarating. Here are some of my personalities in my 6 months at Worley: Risk Detective: My days are filled with identifying potential project pitfalls before they become real-world headaches. It's like being a fortune teller, but with data and analytics as my crystal ball! Network Weaver: Every new project is a chance to expand my professional web. I've connected with brilliant minds across engineering, finance, safety, admin etc. Trust me, it's like assembling an Avengers team for each project! Story Teller: My role isn't just about spreadsheets and probability matrices. It's about painting a vivid picture of potential futures for our clients and helping them make informed decisions. Continuous Learner: The learning curve has been so rewarding. From mastering new quantitative risk assessment tools to understanding the intricacies of emerging green technologies, my brain is in a constant state of growth. None of this would be possible without my incredible team. We're like a well-oiled machine, each bringing unique skills to the table. As the year closes to an end I’ve been reflecting on moving back to my contractor management home role after finishing my 2 year secondment as an operations supervisor of a small gas plant and field asset 6 months ago. As a supervisor my two greatest mentors instilled in me the focus to always try and do myself out of a job, with contractor management how does everyone feel about this? Can you really build a contractor team that doesn’t truely require a client rep, or is this just wishful thinking? I truely believe that you can however I think majority of leaders may think this collaborative approach is unrealistic. "Do Your Best Work—People Will Remember You" My first company, Mudajaya Corporation Berhad, was where I began as an intern. After leaving Sunway Construction Berhad, I received an unexpected call from a former colleague, Mobby Joseph Ambau, who was now a safety officer at Cypark Sdn. Bhd. He said, “Bro, my boss asked me to find a capable Malay engineer. I couldn’t think of anyone else but you.” Later, I moved to Minconsult Sdn. Bhd., thanks to a recommendation from Pn. Ir. Zarina Mohamad Ali, who had been a consultant during my time at Cypark. From Minconsult, I joined MRCB Engineering Sdn. Bhd. when my contract was nearing its end. My boss, Mr. Andy Lau, reached out to offer me a role. After MRCB, I moved to Borneo Geotechnic Sdn. Bhd., a bored pile specialist subcontractor I had worked with at MRCB. The Executive Director invited me to join when I was planning to return to KL. When I joined TH Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (a subsidiary of Lembaga Tabung Haji), my boss, Tengku Kamarolhisham, told me, “Mizi, do you know why I hired you? Because you and I share something in common—we’ve worked in Chinese companies for a long time.” Looking back, many of my career moves were based on recommendations from former colleagues. My first boss, Sharon Ruba at Mudajaya Corporation Berhad, once gave me advice that still resonates today: “Hamizi, if a boss doesn’t like you, even after you leave, they’ll still say things about you. Don’t bother with that. Just do your best. The people around you—your subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients—will notice. When opportunities arise, they’ll come to you.”

Do not follow me, do not like me, no offence, I’m not an influencer, preacher, or politician, just someone focused on continuous self-improvement, striving to be a better version of myself than yesterday.
