I recently had a chat with an employment lawyer I really respect. They shared concerns about businesses buying off-the-shelf solutions to meet the new duty to prevent sexual harassment obligations. The issue? These solutions often aren’t tailored to specific organisational risks, and unfortunately, many have become tick-box exercises. This approach won't provide the defence you need if a claim arises. Before you invest in a one-size-fits-all solution, why not have a conversation with us at Mast People Support first? We can conduct thorough reviews to assess your unique risks and help you develop an approach that works for your organisation.

It’s unfortunate and alarming to see allegations of sexual harassment and a smear campaign surfacing in Hollywood once again, this time involving Blake Lively and her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni. According to recent reports, Lively has filed a legal complaint against Baldoni, and, in a significant development, another individual has come forward with complaints of their own. Justin Baldoni is now facing a separate lawsuit from his former publicist, who has accused him of breach of contract, further complicating the unfolding situation. These developments can underscore a possible pattern of harassment or misconduct: once one person bravely steps forward to share their experience, others find the strength to follow. This domino effect can be a testament to the courage of survivors and an acknowledgment of the pervasive culture of silence that often surrounds such behavior. Harassment and misconduct thrive in silence, and the courage of individuals to speak out disrupts that cycle. We’re here to help. Don’t let a position of power silence you. Whether your experience was recent or years ago, we can help. We've successfully represented many workplace harassment survivors against major corporations and executives. Take control today. It's 2024. I am a 72-year-old male, who in 1980, ❗44 years ago ❗ my first year as a corporate lawyer, was assigned the role of facilitating seminars on the behaviors the subject of this 'unreserved apology'. Since then, anyone with any ounce of #awareness in respect of the news/entertainment industry, would use the legal term 'judicial notice' of the likely bullying and harassment in that industry. 'Judicial notice' is a 'rule in the law of evidence that allows a fact to be introduced into evidence if the truth of that fact is so notorious or well-known, or so authoritatively attested, that it cannot reasonably be doubted.' My question is: ⁉ For how long are we going to allow intentional/reckless 'not knowing' continue to occur at ALL levels of institutional life ⁉ Reflecting on my career, I ask: to what extent was I an enabler? What about you?

The recent NYT article uncovering the retaliation faced by actress Blake Lively after filing her misconduct complaint is deeply unsettling. It serves as a stark reminder that even individuals with fame and resources are not immune to the perils of speaking up. Lively followed the proper channels, acted with courage, and was met with targeted efforts to tarnish her reputation. As someone deeply committed to supporting whistleblowers and fostering a culture where concerns can be raised without fear of retaliation, this case hits close to home. I’ve read her 80+ page legal complaint and stand in solidarity with her and others who face similar challenges. At both a personal and professional level, I am dedicated to empowering individuals and organizations to create environments where ethical concerns are heard and addressed constructively. Retaliation against whistleblowers is morally wrong and counterproductive to a just and transparent society. This story isn’t just about Hollywood: it’s a wake-up call for all industries to strengthen protections for those who bravely step forward to uphold integrity and accountability.
