OrthoPediatrics Specialty Bracing’s Post

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological condition caused by brain damage affecting movement, muscle tone, and posture. But did you know CP can be classified based on which parts of the body are affected and how muscle control is impacted? 👉 CP is categorized by the areas of the body involved: 🔹 Monoplegic CP – Affects one limb (arm or leg) 🔹 Hemiplegic CP – Affects one side of the body (arm and leg) 🔹 Diplegic CP – Affects both legs, often with mild upper extremity involvement 🔹 Quadriplegic CP – Affects all four limbs, often including the trunk and face 👉CP can also be classified by movement patterns: 🔹Spastic CP – Stiff, tight muscles causing difficulty with movement 🔹Dyskinetic CP – Involuntary movements making control difficult 🔹 Ataxic CP – Difficulty with balance and coordination 🔹Mixed CP – A combination of two or more types Understanding these differences helps us provide specialized bracing solutions to improve mobility, comfort, and independence! #CPAwarenessmonth #cerebralpalsy
