Amanda wanted to create a path for students to explore teaching as a career and for more diversity in the staff. To address this, Amanda approached the Director of Counseling to introduce a "Tomorrow's Teachers" elective course. After discussing the importance of this initiative, Amanda organized a formal meeting with the Assistant Superintendent to present research on the teacher shortage and how increasing diversity among educators can positively impact students. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and soon, Amanda received approval to include this course in our school’s program of study for the 2023-2024 school year. Amanda attended a special two-day training at Rider University to prepare for the new course. The elective course opened to juniors and seniors for the first time, with 8 students enrolled. In 2024, the course has grown to 17 students, all eager to explore the world of education and potentially pursue it as a career. #AdvocacyInAction

Going back to school doesn’t mean you have to do it all at once. If you’re thinking about returning to school, take it slow. It’s not a race. You don’t need to take on everything at once. Adding school on top of work and family is a lot. One or two classes can be enough to build confidence and momentum. The goal isn’t speed—it’s finishing in a way that works for your life. When schools make education accessible, the journey becomes possible. Education should feel achievable, not overwhelming. For so many working adults, the opportunity to grow and advance depends on programs designed for REAL life. What’s stopping you from taking that first small step?
